Question about 2008 Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere

Starting difficulties when bike is parked outside

I have a 2008 model of the XTZ660 tenere. Since last januari it have had difficulties starting when it has been parked outside.
I´ve replaced the sparkplug after the engine was drowned with petrol for the first time. After that it started a bit better but now runs "rough" at variable speeds, like it's holding back in power.
I've checked the drive chain for worn pieces but couldn't find any. I'v cleaned out the air filter.

Anyone an idea??

Dude, forget the spark plug. Check the injection computer. Take the bike to a specialized service. Good luck and ride safe! Dragos, Romania

Bike wont start

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
11. Check for engine trouble codes.

Manual Tenere XT 660 Z

Hi, Diezortuzar the vast majority of service, parts, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain wiring diagrams in the back pages. The rest usually charge a modest fee around $10 sometimes more and there is a handful of obscure, rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer or never were available, then there is eBay where you may be able to find what you need at a very high price because of its age and rarity. Most of the "FREE" manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. To download your manual please click on the blue links below. Good luck and have a wonderful day.

I have a 2008 Yamaha WR250R that gets "Sunstroke" will not start when left in the sun

Hi, Scrappydoosr some bikes get "Sun Stroke" after running fine in the morning then shut off and parked in the sun for a couple of hours on a hot day. You get back on the bike hit the starter button and nothing happens or the engine turns over but will not fire. Then you put the bike in the shade for 20-30 minutes and it fires up no problem.
The primary reason for this phenomenon is faulty wire connections in the Starter and/or Ignition Circuit. You may have a wire connection/component that makes just enough contact when cool to start and run the bike, but when parked and exposed to direct sunlight heat causes expansion and creates an "OPEN" in the circuit not allowing the bike to start. You move the bike into the shade for a few minutes, the temperature goes down allowing the connection to contract and make better contact and suddenly "it's a miracle" the bike starts. I know what you're thinking that Gremlin could be anywhere, and you would be right in that assumption, you can take your bike to a dealer, spend tons of "DRACHMA" only to receive validated nervous emotions the next time you park in the sun, then 1 week later it doesn't start. Start by doing a ground check:
Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. Check all common grounds for the same suspects.
The secondary reason your bike may get "Sun Stroke" is vapor lock although this is a rare scenario it does happen.

Difficulty starting car- egine cranks but car does

2008 nissan versa should still be covered under warranty. take it to the dealer. possibly the anti-drainback valve in the fuel pump is broken and the fuel lines are becoming depresurized when it sits. this will cause the car not to start until the pressure build up.

My bike wont start

I have the same problem and same model (2008 KTM Adventure 990 S) so injection, not carburator.
I didn't start the engine for three months. I bought a brand new battery. Lights, fuel pump and everything seemed to be ok at the first key turn. But when you try to turn it even more to definitely start the engine, ignition fails. I think the electric engine of the starter is not working properly.
I tried to start the engine driving down the slope and releasing the clutch in 2nd gear at aprox 30 km/h and it started successfully.
I left it idle until became hot (15 min aprox) and the turned it off.
however it didn't start again when trying the ignition button.
Any ideas?
