Question about 2005 Harley Davidson FXD - FXDI Dyna Super Glide

3 Answers

I own a 05 superglide with a 39mm narrow glide front end. I want to convert it to the newer 49mm front end using an 06 superglide front end. Are the frame necks the same, or did Harley-Davidson incorporate changes that will not make this conversion possible? Or is it simple parts swap? Any help, feedback would be appreciated, THANKS! Ryan

Go to a dealer and look up the part numbers for the frame on 05 and 06 fxd models. If they are the same you are in luck. The front brake hose may be a problem so check that also.

I have a 2005 FXD Superglide and I put a 2006 Road King Front End . I had a couple problems first I had to have the bottom tree ground down a little as it has a bead that interfers with it seating on the bearing once that was solved I had to much travel in the forks and the voltage regulator would dent the front fender so I put a craftsman socket that would drop in th forks to reduce the travel thus no more interference with voltage regulator and it is one fast 1550cc now and a very fast stable ride that I change back and forth from a solo with bags to a dual seat and absolutely love this ride. Also put a Mikuni 42mm Carb and KB Pistons and thats all folks and she rides great with all the power you need.---DC

I want to fit twin disc to my dyna superglide I got some sliders with the caliper mounts on from a V Rod and was told the should fit they are both 49mm tubes but the lenth is 25mm sort at the top end do...

Since I don't have any experience with anything to do with a V-rod, I cannot advise you on the front forks but unless they are almost exactly the same as your originals, I doubt they're going to work.

In addition to a caliper and a disc, you're probably going to need another front wheel as well. Unless your wheel has the proper drillings for the rotor to bolt up to it.

You're also going to need another front brake master cylinder. The original you have now probably has a 5/8" bore and you'll need the larger bore master cylinder. Remember, you've got to supply fluid to two calipers rather than just a single caliper.

Regrettfully, some things are just not as simple as they seem to be.

97 fxdl, difference between narrow/wide glide componants

You need the complete front end including the wheel. The FXDWG is somewhat of an oddball in that a lot of parts fit only that bike. A lot of other parts will not fit a Wide Glide. This even applies to the exhaust system.

Measure the diameter of your upper fork tubes, they're 39 mm tubes. The Wide Glide uses 41 mm tubes. The Wide Glide also uses a 21" front wheel.

I NEAD A NEW FRONT END . WHICH OTHER MODLES WILL INTERCHANGE WITH MY 2004 FXD

any 2000 to about 06??? (check with dealer to find the exact cut off year/month)Sportster, SuperGlide or SuperGlide Sport will pretty much be a bolt on with minor wiring and hose changes. You can put just about any front end on it if you are inclined to make the needed changes, but for quick and easy (stock) stick with Sporty and SuperGlide.
