The proper instructions are on pages 6-10 thru 6-12 of the owners manaul. If you don not have a copy you can view one here.

Here is a list of oil filters which will fit the 'liners, besides the OEM filter:
This info was on the forum some time back, filters for Liners:

  • Amsoil ……………………… (SMF103) chrome (SMF103C)
  • Bosch ……………………… (3300) (3330) (3323)
  • Mobil One…………………… M108
  • BOSCH……………………….3300 3323
  • K&N…………………………….KN-303
  • NAPA GOLD……………...1358
  • PUROLATOR……………….ML16817
  • Purolator PureONE.....PL14612 Buy @ 2/$5.88
  • Purolator PureOne......PL14610 Buy @ 2/$5.88
The 14612 is the short filter. The longer one, which also fits the Liner, is the 14610 model (in case it matters).
  • STP…………………………...SDF13
  • WIX…………………………..51358
  • FRAM………………………...6017A
  • HASTINGS…………………LF-113
  • HI FLO………………………HF-303
  • EMGO……………………….10-82220
  • PER-FORM…………………J-503
  • Super Tech………………..ST7317 (Wal-Mart)
The Wal-Mart ST 6607 is a little smaller than the stock filter and the 7317 is maybe a half inch longer. Both will work fine.

You will want to change the crush washers on the plugs.
The crush washers can be obtained at your nearest Yamaha dealer, or similar washers can be obtained at Advanced Auto. The size is 1/2 (or M14) called oversize, crush washers.
Oil-tite part #65310
They come in a 3 pack.

How do i replace the transmission fluid of 2009 nissan altima

two ways to do it
1-- drop the pan and drain half the oil and check / clean the filter
2---take it to an accredited auto transmission shop and have it changed with the engine running--- changes all the oil including what is in the torque converter with no need to drop the pan
method 2 is more expansive as you have to use more oil but the result is better as it removes any contaminants from the torque converter that method 1 does not do

New mechanic reccomended transmission flush and service. is this good advice?

for automatic transmissions where the oil is not fresh but shows signs of burning ( burnt smell) , the transmission shows signs of sluggish changing the a flush would be recommended
There are 2 methods that can be used
the first is a cheap method where the pan is removed and the oil taken out and the filter cleaned
While the pan is off , the clutch packs and bands can be adjusted
The more costly method but a far better choice is to flush the transmission while the engine is running
Oil is sucked in from a fresh drum and delivered to a waste drum. this changes all the oil in the transmission and torque converter where as the first method leaves dirty oil in the torque converter
The second method does not require the pan removal so adjustments are not done and the filter is not cleaned
While the advice to change the oil is good you have to decide which method you want to use
I suggest a discussion of the merits of both with an accredited transmission shop and get quotes.

How to get change oil light to go off

Instructions:1) Check the oil. The light is a warning signal that you are low on oil or that the oil is not flowing properly. If the oil level is fine then the issue may be a reset button. Two different methods will allow you to reset the oil light.2) Turn the key to the on position. Do not turn the engine on. Press the accelerator pedal down three times in a five-second period. Turn the engine on. If the oil light goes off you have successfully reset the oil light. If it stays on you need to try the second method.3) Find the fuse box. This should be under the dash in between the steering wheel and the door. Open the fuse box and look for the reset button. Press the button until you hearing a beeping sound. It will beep three times. The oil light should be reset. Turn the engine and see if the oil light goes off. If the oil light stays it still has not been successfully reset.
4) Read the manual. The two methods above are the two most common ways of resetting the oil light. Your car may have additional options to try. If none of the methods resets the oil light then there is a different problem such as a non-functioning oil sensor. At this point you need to see a mechanic.

How to change oil in automatic transmission in Volvo 850?

In order to change the transmission oil in this vehicle without a vacuum you need to remove the upper transmission line that runs into the radiator. Then attach about 3ft of 1/2 ID plastic tube (from any hardware store) to that line and into a 5 gallon bucket or other container. Start the engine and shut it off as soon as you see bubbles (may need two people for this) Then you add fresh oil to replace the amount of old oil and do this method till it runs out clean. (Takes around 12 quarts to complete) Be sure to make sure you are not letting the transmission dry! Permanent damage may result from this.Running this dry comes to a matter of second! This is why I suggest using two people, one to watch and one to run the key.

Another method I have used is the drain and fill method. The drain plug on the bottom of the transmission yields 4 quarts and if you drain that and then fill it with fresh, run the car a bit (maybe to work and back) then do it again. Eventually around the third or forth change the fluid should be clean. This method takes longer but it much safer for the transmission.

These cars take Mercon III/ Dextron
Let me know if you have any questions.

I have a VERY OLD Craftsman Air Compressor. I believe it is a 20 gallon 220 volt 2 hp. electric motor. The model number on the side of the compressor (2pistons) unit is 265-104. I don't have any problems...

I've been working on air compressors for a while now and so far haven't found any that give a specific amount of oil to put in the air pump crank case. They all have one of two methods to get the oil to the proper level. First, and my favorite, is a sight glass at the bottom of the crank case. About the size of a quarter, it lets you see how much oil is in the pump as you add it. Usually they have a red center dot which is where you want the oil level. A little over or under is OK but the sight glass should not be completely full or completely empty, both are hard on the pump and drive motor. Another method is a dip stick usually on the end of the fill hole cap. Only bad thing about these is you have to put in some oil, check the oil level with the dip stick, then add more oil and check it with the dip stick until you get to the full mark. Again, not over and only a little under is where you want the oil level.

How to turn off change oil light on the 2004 Chevy Colorado Pick-up truck ?

1. Turn the ignition to ON do not start.Engine OFF dash board lights ON.
2. Press and release the reset button in the driver information center (DIC) until the OIL LIFE message is displayed.
3. Once the alternating OIL LIFE and RESET messages appear on the DIC display, press and hold the reset stem until several beeps sound. This confirms the OIL LIFE system has been reset.
4. Turn the key to lock. If the CHANGE OIL message comes back on when you start the engine, the ENGINE OIL LIFE system has not reset. Repeat the procedure
Alternate Method
1. Turn the ignition key to ON with the engine off.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. Several beeps sound. This confirms the oil life system has been reset.
3. Turn the ignition key OFF.
4. If the CHANGE/OIL message comes back on when you start the engine, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure
I use the second method, it is more universal and it works for Chevy Venture too.

What is the proper procedure to changing an oil pan and can i use an RTV sealer instead of a gasket?

I would suspect that this is an Escort style pan in which RTV is the oil pan gasket. I have always applied a thin layer of RTV to the pan and the block of the engine, allow them to dry for 1/2 hour, then reapply a second thing layer to the oil pan and install. I have never had one leak after using this method. Make sure that the bolt holes stay open during this whole process.

After changing oil, tried to shut off change oil message using method in owners manual.used to work, but won't this to fix?

I would givw the owners man. method one more shot. That message is sent when a certain milage is reached after your previous change. If that does not work, take it to an advanced or autozone parts store and have them clear that for you, it's free.
