Would like to find year of transmision

Depends on year, and type (4 speed, 5 speed, 6 speed, 3 speed with reverse, etc)

In 1962 Harley started stamping numbers on the transmissions (back then, the 4 speeds).
It's an alphabetical letter code followed by three or four digits.
CODE A-B = 1962-1963
CODE B-C-D = 1964
CODE C-D =1965
CODE D-E-F-G = 1966-1967
CODE J-K-L = 1969
CODE K-L = 1970

From 2000 on the transmission number system was year then 6 digit sequential transmission number, ie. 02 000123 would be a 2002 trans., 123rd built.

This should only be used as a guide only. Even Harley-Davidson admit there are some discrepancies in their numbering systems.

Owners manual 2008 electra glide hd

Depending on your country Harley Davidson will supply one electronically.

If you were to log on to, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers for spare part supplies as required.

I hope this helps.
