My fzr 1000 87 jumped out of gear when i gave it a boot full, is my gear box on its way out?

If it jumps out of gear then the drive dogs on the side of the gears in the gearbox are worn and need replacing along with the matching drive or driven gear.the oil type is 10 w 40 only use this and also make sure it not fully synthetic or the clutch will slip.

Location ot clutch

If the washers is not spinning fast enough, usually it is the adjustment or wear on the gearbox pulley. If this is not the case the locking clutch is insde the gearbox & gearbox will require replacement.

Why won't my Maytag Washer extract water properly from clothing after going through the complete cycle?

Belt tension spring faulty, belt loose. Pump partly blocked, look for coin caught in hoses. Internal clutch failed in gearbox, replace gearbox. Gearbox pulley wrongly adjusted, remove pulley, re-grease, re-install with correct clearance.

1987 fzr 1000,i have no gears, does not move.

Several things could cause this. You are going to wind up taking the bike to a dealer for a first hand check. The shift shaft could be broken, a spring on the shaft could be broken, The main drive gear on the crank shaft could be stripped or loose on the shaft, The clutch could be totally shot, Synthetic oil in the gearbox can mess up a clutch, The shift drum could be frozen, A gear shaft could be broken. The dealer can do an external check and give an educated guess as to the cause, but it is highly likely they will need to remove the right side case for inspection. What they find there will rule out a few things and help to find the cause. If the clutch, shift shaft and primary drive gear all look good then the problem is inside the gearbox and it is going to be an expensive repair. Parts availability is likely to be a problem. The best source I am aware of is Babbitts Sports Center. Go to Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Hello, Yes, the repair tech is correct. This model washer does NOT have a drive belt. It uses a gearbox driven directly by the electric motor. It is likely that the gearbox has a stripped gear or a broken drive wheel.

I've attached a link to the Sears parts web site so you can look at all the line drawings and parts diagrams for your washer model. You can click on each link to see the various components and also get a replacement parts list, which shows the prices (if you buy them thru Sear's site) to give you a better idea of the anticipated cost to replace the gearbox, etc.!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.91110100&=part+number

Just click on the link titled, "BRAKE, CLUTCH, GEARCASE, MOTOR AND PUMP " to get a good look at the parts that make the washer agitate and spin.

You might want to take a closer look to see if it a gearbox issue or maybe a motor drive shaft problem where the keyway has sheared off and is causing the washer not to spin. If, however, the washer agitates during the wash cycle, the problem is NOT a stripped keyway on the motor shaft, but rather is within the gearbox and you'll have to either repair or replace the gearbox to get the washer working properly again.

The decision to undertake the repairs or purchase a new washer is yours to make, but I can offer the following to help you decide. If the parts (and labor costs, if you don't do the repair yourself) exceeds 60% of the cost of a new, comparable machine AND the machine is over 8-10 years old, AND you've got rust starting to appear inside the wash tub, etc. you might wish to seriously consider replacing your washer with a new one. Otherwise, go ahead and make the repairs and keep it working for (hopefully) many more years to come.
I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Maytag washer model PAVT244AWW will not agitate during wash cycl

When the machine drains etc the gearbox locks up and the whole unit drum box and all spins when washing the gearbox innerds move the otherway so to speak and this cuasees a washing action this sounds as if the input shaft may need replaceing but it is usually better to replace the gearbox depends on finances but to be sure get a technition in to check and quote you first this is not something you can do if you have not done it before

Does not spin

there is a coupling between the motor and gearbox, that fails.
it is a simple repair, and well worth trying

remove cabinet
  • pop off edge trims from control console
  • remove screwss from under edge trim
  • slide console forward and up ~1inch
  • flip the console over the back of the washer, the hinges are plastic and a little fragile
  • remove brass clips holding cabint inplace remember how they fit
  • lift cabinet ~1inch and remove forward
repair coupling
  • motor gearboxpump is at front bottom center
  • remove lock screw from clip holding pump to motor
  • remove two spring clips
  • pull pump off motor and swing sideways on hoses, tie off to left with a string
  • remove lock screw from clip holding motor to gearbox
  • remove two spring clips
  • pull motor off rubber coupling
  • pull nylon spider off gearbox shaft
  • pull nylon spider off motor shaft
  • install new spiders to shafts. Use a hammer to strike a wooden dowel on the center of the spider, dont hit the legs of the spider they break off

Note the new coupling spiders have metal centers to stop further breakage, common fault
  • turn gearbox spider 1 leg up two legs down
turn motor spider , 2 leg up 1 leg down so the spiders will interlock
  • install new rubber coupling on gearbox spider, install motor on coupling.
reassemble all clips and screws in reverse order
reassemble case in reverse order
on reassemble ensure plastic level sensing hose is not dislodged from water level switch body

takes longer to type than to do the repair
at parts store "Kenmore gearbox coupling" will get the correct part

It is not the timer, it is a gearbox drive coupling, whirlpoool 285753, parts common to whirlpool roper ge and about a dozen other brands.
dissassembly instructions vary slightly between models
  • remove trims from ends of control panel
  • remove scres under trims
  • raise control panel and flip it over backwards
(note: do not dislodge air tube from level selector)
  • remove brass retainer clips
    (note: position for reinstall)
  • remove lid switch connector
  • remove lid and body
the motor and gearbox are now exposed
  • undo bolt(s) holding spring clips to pump,
  • remove spring clips holding pump to motor(note position for reinstall)
  • unto bolt(s) holding spring clips to motor
  • remove spring clips holding motor to gearbox
    (note position for reinstall)
  • there will be a plastic 3 legged 'spider' on the gearbox, and one on the motor, and a rubber ring with 6 holes that match the positions of the legs
  • remove the ring and spiders
  • take the ring and spiders to the local parts guy and get replacement,
(Note the local parts guy will have the replacement, it is common to ge, whirlpool, roper, kenmore, new maytag, frigidaire and many others.)
  • use a piece of dowel, to hammer the center of the spider to the input shaft of the gearbox and the motor shaft,
(note dont hit the legs they break.)
(note: new spiders have metal center hubs, this is a common failure and the replacements have been strengthened)
  • turn gearbox shaft 1 leg up 2 legs down
  • turn motor shaft 2 legs up 1 leg down
  • insert new rubber ring over gearbox spider
  • insert motor into rubber ring
reinstall springclips
pump springclips
control panel
in reverse order to above

gearbox coupling ~$17.00
time ~25 minutes, but I do 3-4/month
