Wire that is between your power source and the pump, needs to be broken/spliced in, with a switch.
If this is a 240 wired motor/pump then Both "hot" wires need to be broken by the switch. If 120, then it is possible to just break the one hot wire. That will be the (Normally) black wire. But be very careful in this as Electricity is "Color Blind"! It does not care what the wire color is. Checking with a meter is always wise & when working with electricity wires, ensure power breaker shut off switches are in the "Off" position.
I posted the two different types of switches you can get at a hardware store.
Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.
Is this a two speed pool pump with a toggle switch as part of the motor or a spa pump plugged into a control that uses relays to switch from high to low?
If it is a pool pump you will need a new toggle switch.
If it is a spa unit, replace the relay.
