there are a few possible causes for this
    1. the cable going in to the back of the rev counter may not be tight .
    2. the spring inside the rev counter may be streched.
    3. the sensor may need replacing in the fly wheel

Hi,
Electrical problem.
Better check the ......
  • Relays and clean the terminals.
  • Ignition switch terminal and harness.
  • Clean the harness connectors.
  • Main fuse might have blown.
  • Check the starter switch.
  • Try to directly connect the starter to battery, just to check if it works, if not the prob would be in the starter motor.

Hope that helps you out!

Hi there I have a Kawasaki er-5 the rev counter has stopped working, I've checked the battery for charging and it's going up to 16 volts. Can anyone tell me why the rev counter isn't working and where the...

Ok this is a problem with the rpm pick up sensor. It is a wire or wires that run directly into the transmission. As for the voltage regulator. It is a small black box usually by the ecu on the right inside of the tail. Also Motorcycles do not have alternators. They have a thing called a stator. It is inside the motor. It is recommended that you do not attempt to open your cases. Its messy and very confusing. and if you mess one thing up the bike is trash.
