sounds like its running really hot. do you have the right part number spark plug in the cylinder head. part number dictates plug heat range.

if the pipe an aftermarket pipe or the stock pipe?

Can you put a starter kit on a Yamaha YZ250 fuel stroke .?

Hi, Ricky don't think so for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. Exhaust is glowing red After two minutes

Hi, Anonymous a YZ is a motocross bike designed to run flat out that being said if you are strolling down some scenic trail at a slow pace or letting the bike idle for a few minutes your header pipe will turn cherry red, why you ask? It is not a street bike, it is designed for competition and weight is a major factor all necessary components are of the smallest and lightest design necessary to maintain performance under extreme conditions ie. small radiator and inside frame oil reservoir that doesn't get cooled, the majority of your riding needs to be at high speed. Overheating yz250f

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Low coolant level.
2. Restricted radiator air flow.
3. Faulty thermostat.
4. Coolant pump or fans inoperative.
5. Vent hose crimped.
6. Air in the coolant and needs bleeding.

I have 2006 TTR-250 with nomods and only 200 miles on it. Like another owner, I have problems running except on choke and have seen the pipe glowing red at idle. The bike has always been hard starting. ...

Well the glowing red header pipe and the fact that its hard to start is a pretty good sighn that your VALVES need adjusted.on a four stroke bike you have to adjust the valves about every 6 months to a year( and more often if you run it at high RPMs alot) i have both 2-strokes and 4-strokes bikes and have had this same problem with my 4-strokes(honda&yamaha) if you get a manuel and are somewhat mechanicaly inclined you can adjust them your self but if your not, i would take it in and have it done because if not done properly its easy to bend or break a valve( and i think yours has 4 valves.2-intake and 2-exhaust) And head work is not cheep!!!! but a adjustment on the valves is!!!!! good luck....

I bought dirt bike for husband! is 2005 yamaha yz250 a 2-stroke or 4-stroke? i'm not sure if it's yz250 or yz250f now that i'm to get posted i'm not sure of year. sleeve around cable say nov 2005

Congrats on the purchase! easy way to tell look at the exhaust pipe. if it is just a thin tube that is tight to the engine and goes right to the muffler it is a 4 stroke (250f). the four strokes have a square-ish head. Deep/bass-y engine sound. If you have a large (probably black) exhaust pipe with a large bulge in it (5-6" diameter) that wraps around the front of the frame, its a 2-stroke. They have a more round cylinder head. Beautiful pingy sound and a little smokey at start up. DON'T FORGET TO MIX YOUR GAS!!! there should be a serial number sticker at the very front of the frame (behind the number plate where your triple clamp/handlebars connect) Probably on the left side. Hope it helps! rate please :)

Oil leak by exhaust pipe

I am not personally familiar with a 1975 DT250, but here is a general overview. If the bike is a 4 stroke, the oil you observed could have been from the exhaust, however it is more likely that it is from a leaky valve cover gasket or a head gasket. If the bike is a 2 stroke, the "oil" is from the exhaust (expansion chamber). It is excess 2 stroke oil that accumulates. You should reduce the mix to 32:1 or even 40:1 and replace the oring gasket in the opening of the pipe. If in a pinch you can use high temp silicone, but not a good way to go.
best wishes!
