disconnect hose at tanks petcock, replace with a longer hose to drain gas into gas can, turn petcock on & let it drain until empty

Not likely but you could better check part numbers with a Harley parts person.

no...... a 2005 tank will fit on models only back to 1996

I just changed mine and it only took about an hour and a half.

I believe they could. Possibly not the fenders, but the tank, that's a probability. Check the mounts, and take some measurements of tank length on the bottom.
