Ello m8,, sounds like shez just got damp,, or the fuels gon off while shez been stood,, if shez been stood 4 ages with fuel in then thats likely,, so cleaning the carbs will be needed, ,as a last resort tho ,, but 1st take off one spark plug cap off at a time and spray some wd40 in side the cap and a bit round the plug,, do this to all 4 caps ,,then try that,if its damp wd40 will solve it, spray round the electric connections to while your there, and chuck in some fresh fuel to,, if still wont start ,shout again and il take u threw step 2,, cheers now

Describe your yamaha type/kind/model and year and how long is it in storage (not used).
What kind of storage processing did you do before storing it?
Have you use a fresh battery after storage, is it fully charged?

I went out this morning and turned the key on and pulled in the clutch and pushed the button the lights dimmed but engine did not even click. I'm pretty sure it is not the batter as I just took it off the...

It may still be your battery. My 2002 vt750 dc started all the time for the last 8 years. Then one morning it would not turn over the motor fast enough to start. Tried charging, but no difference. Finally I put in a new battery and it started right up. Your battery of 9 years did a great job, now get a new one.

I would suggest a compression test, but you cant get it to spin over.
Spinning it with your pinky doesnt sound right though, as the cams turning etc will cause some resistance. have you tried roll starting? is the battery in correctly red\positive?
Try a test light on the starter cable, to make sure the solenoid works

GSX-R 750 Starter Ticks

sounds like the starter soliniod to me have you tried to bump start it?To do this get it onto a flat or slightly down hill road them put it into 2nd gear pull the clutch in and start pushing as fast as possible as soon as you have it going as fast as you can jump on board and as the bike takes your weight let the clutch out the bike should fire. Ps have you put new fuel in it as old fuel degrades and gums every thing up

Bikes been in storage for 4 years

Your oil pan where you normally drain the oil when changing it IS the crankcase. I would also drain any gas from the fuel tank(s) and put fresh gas in it, and you will probably need a new battery.
