Huyndai Accent, do I need a new clutch?

Hi, my 99 Hyundai Accent has been giving me trouble accelerating, it is very slow to build up any sort of speed from starting, even when the clutch up the full way and foot on the accelerator in low gears. It has been happening since I collected the car from a garage that was fitting a new stereo after a break in about a week ago. Do I need to get the clutch replaced or am I being far too optimistic thinking there may be another less expensive problem here???
Would really appreciate any thoughts or advice on it

It definitly feels like the parking break is engaged when driving but it still rolls on a unless I pull it up. How would I check if it has completly disengaged?

  • mickofnure Feb 27, 2009

Dangerously slowly and I have to maintain up to 4000 rpm to move up through the gears..... last week it was a comfortable 2000 rpm :( . It seems almost like the clutch is never fully released...

Really appreciate you helping me out by the way :)

Where is the fuel filter on my '99 Huyndai Accent? (Hint: It's not under the rear seat)

The fuel filter will be inside the engine compartment in line with fuel lines.

In case of Desiel engines you identify the filters seperately.

Need instructions to change timing belt and water pump on 2005 huyndai accent

It would be hard to explain over the computer.
The best and easiest way to do this is get a Chilton manual for the auto-parts store. The book runs about $20.
It will show you step by step on how to do it. It's the do-it-yourself bible for your car.
This way you have all the pictures, diagrams and other info you need. It's great research material.

My clutch on my 2000 hyundai accent is slippin and was wondering if there is an ajustment on it or do i just need to replace it?

Your vehicle has a hydrolic clutch and is self adjusting. You will need to replace the clutch. this new of a car should not need the clutch replace so allow me to explain something that most people do not know, your clutch does not wear out as fast if you do not accelerate while letting it out. I know that sounds impossible but the less you accelerate while letting it off the longer it will last. Try finding a open and level parking lot and practicing taking off with out touching the accelerator. You have to let off very slow at first but after you get used to it you will find you get smoother take offs and less wear.
