Question about 1991 Honda CBR 250 RR

1 Answer

Loss of power around 8 -10,000 revs in 3/4 gear

I own a 1991 Honda CBR250RR with about 30,000kms.. On my last ride the engine revs died in 3rd gear around 8 - 10,000 revs, Power dropped, revs dropped, pulled the bike over and the engine cut out. Took a couple of minutes to start it up. Went ok for about 1km and then did the same thing. When the engine revs dropped the engine noise changed to a hard metallic sound. Bloody confusing.

No compression all 4 cyclinders cbr250rr

I am no expert by any means but I had a similar problem. turns out the governor was turned down too low. Everything starts up but dies. Another thing it might be would be the choke. I have this bike and some times the choke gets stuck open and floods the engine.

My cbr250rr mc22 is slow to responed.

Im not sure, and i would only be able to diagnose if i could hear it myself. Was that a full clutch replacement, or just friction plates. Did they replace the clutch basket and install new clutch plates and springs. its possible that maybe the clutch bearing is going bad but thats a long shot at best. You should be able to tell if it is a clutch problem when its running good, giver all shes got all the way to red line and see if she slips or starts to make a noise, please do it safely, if that all checks out good then i would say you probably do have a fuel problem. Just need to put some Seafoam fuel cleaner/stabilizer in the tank 1/3 can two gallons fuel and since your going to change the filter just fill up the filter with the cleaner and drive bike around for at least 10 miles that should remove anything cloggling up the jets, get the fuel problem taken care of first, and then you can start to try and locate the squeal. make sure you got plenty of oil too. Hope you get her running right!

Bike hasent been started in 2 weeks runing 93 oc and honda hp mix, took me like 20 kicks to get started and once it started it ran fine. Then I started to ride it around. Since it was still a little cold i...

if the oil is grey and kind of like a milkshake, that means you have either water or coolant in the oil. if you didn't sink it or ride it through deep water, you possibly could have a blown head gasket or a bad crank seal in your motor allowing coolant to get in the crank. that could lead to the power loss and stalling of the bike. run a compression test first to see if your rings are bad. then a leakdown test to see which seal or gasket is bad.

Engine cutting out whilst riding along

If all the electrics go off then :-
A) Check tightness of battery terminals & condition of battery
B) Check for dodgy fuse or dirty connections
C) Check voltage across battery terminals when engine running - should be at least 12.5v rising with increasing revs to 15v max - if not then suspect the regulator/rectifier unit or the wiring from it to battery

I hope this helps, if so please mark as helpful.
Positive comments always appreciated

Sounds like either the starter is hanging or the starter clutch is.If it was a more serious mechanical problem,It would still happen after starting.

Please rate this a fixya.

Louder/deeper noise from engine/exhaust and a loss of power.

Check the exhaust. Sometimes the muffler will partially collapse internally, (louder noise). This restriction in the flow of exhaust gases is commonly called "back pressure". The back pressure will cause a lack of power and loss of higher revs.

Disconnect the exhaust system and ride around the block without a muffler. It will tick off mom and dad but the kids will love it. If the problem instantly disappears then you can go find a new set of pipes.

Please rate this solution as "FixYa" ( if it works ). Thanks!
