Hi, Brian after careful deliberation 4 out 5 Kawasaki Gods give this one a thumbs up, but just to be on the safe side you should give your local dealer's parts/service department a call to confirm. How do you replace the exhaust downpipes on a ZZR600

Well, the hole can be welded using a new half piece pipe if the rest are good, else it is an easy job for a muffler shop to do it, but it is your call.

1996 zl600 oil leaked from what looked like an exhaust hose or drain hose. What causes this problem. Does the oil and filter need to be changed? Just bought it used. Also, where do i find the oil filter...

The tube the oil leaked from is probably from the air filter box. I would change the oil and filter. You can find out where the filter is at the bike parts store/dealer. Use only the oil they sell because wet clutches do not work well with regular motor oil.
On that tube, just trace it to its origin. You can check your air filter at the same time. Good Luck Ned

Following replacing the downpipes I have found

changing exhaust pipes to a different than stock i.e.free flowing, system necessitates re-jetting carburetters. one hot cylinder indicates a too lean condition often caused by maladjusted float level or restriction of fuel flow to ,or within the carb of the affected cylinder.multi-carb setups must be 'calibrated' so they work in unison.
