Hi Paulvilla13,

I'm not sure if your '87 is the same as my '88 or not, but mine is located just in front of the tank. I also have to remove the rear driver-side wheel to get at it.

Hope I've helped, don't forget to rate.

The fuel filter purifies the fuel coming from the fuel tank before it reaches the injectors. With any gasoline system, carbureted or fuel injected, it is extremely important for the fuel to be clean and free of debris. Dirt, rust or any other contaminant can create extensive and costly damage to the system. Periodical fuel filter changes are a good way to insure against dirt or other unwanted contaminants entering the fuel delivery components.
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
See Figures 1 through 8
The fuel filter is located on the firewall in the engine compartment, or mounted on the vehicle's frame right below the engine compartment, and is connected to the fuel hard-lines by high pressure flexible hoses.

  1. Reduce the internal pressure of the fuel delivery system-refer to the previously described procedure in this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery.
  3. Remove the fuel filter protector plate, which is usually affixed to the filter with two mounting bolts.
  4. Disconnect the fuel filter mounting bolt.
  5. Using two wrenches, disconnect the high pressure fuel line and the fuel hard-line from the filter. The Monteros are equipped with two high pressure hoses, rather than one high pressure hose and one hard-line.
To Install:
  1. Connect the high pressure line(s) to the fuel filter. First temporarily tighten the flare nut by hand, then tighten it to the specified torque of 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Make certain that the fuel hose does not become twisted. Connect the hard-line to the fuel filter with the same amount of torque.
  2. Mount the fuel filter with the mounting bolt and install the protector plate.
  3. Connect the negative (-) battery cable to the battery.
  4. Start the engine (it may take a while for the system to pressurize and start the vehicle).
  5. Check for any gasoline leaks from the fuel filter fittings, repair if needed.

I have a vacume line I dont know where it goes, its between the carb and the head, the vacume is at the botton of the carb at the base, the hose came off and it disaaapeared, i looked at the diagram under...

The base of the carb location sounds like the vacuum spark advance for the distributor. Look for a (possibly broken) approx 4mm pipe on the distributor body.

Fuel pump location on a 1987 Mitsubishi mighty max

Electric pumps are located either in the tank, or in a little protective box or cover right near the tank (like Subarus, some toyotas, hondas). Check around the tank, maybe follow the fuel line back from the front-you'll find it.

I have a 1987 mighty max truck that has been sitting for years. The motor turns over but wont start unless I pour fuel into carb. Where do I start to make this truck run again?

I expect the carb has become heavily fouled, old gas will quickly gum things up. I'd drain the tank, add new fuel and rebuild the carb. Also insure you have fuel to the carb (possible failed fuel pump)

If I may help further, please let me know,
Tom
