You will find with the age of the bike that the coil is probably caput. this camn be changed with a lot of brute force and ignorance. it is behind the crank housing and will only come off with a crank puller, this should solve your probs.

Why is my battery not charging on my Motorcycle

With a fully charged battery connected, read the voltage across the positve (+) and negative(-) with a digital meter. It should be about 12.0-12.4volts DC. Start the bike and again check the voltage with the engine running. The reading should be 13-13.5 volts which means your charging circuit is okay. If still reading around 12 volts the charging system is not working, but if reading higher than 13.5v you have a serious charging fault that is putting too much power to your battery and frying it.

Bike won't rev out

Could be electrical.Bikes that have generator systems need battery induced.Unlike an alternator system, like a car you can jump start and the alternator will run with good spark to fire fuel.Generator type need battery induced,so battery must have correct amperage. Can test battery with a volt or/amp test.See what you have with bike not running, then running need about 20% more volts then the 6 or 12 volt battery states (about 14 volts running on a 12 volt battery.Know your battery life span & know that a new battery that year.Plus generator must keep battery charged.I like to have a good spare and also go for a glass mat battery especially if bike is ridden season related. Good Luck!

You may just have a dead cell in the battery. The battery needs to be checked under load. Most shops will do a battery check for free. At least you can eliminate the battery itself as a culprit.

I don't have a manual for my small Black & Decker Smart Charger. I'm trying to charge the battery on my '07 Honda Rebel 250cc. It has settings for 2/6/12 volt batteries. How do I hook it...

Hi,

You just need to set black & decker charger to 12V . Don't make mistake while connecting + / - leads. + lead usually come with Red color cable. You can use the AVO tester to justify the lead cable. The charging time is normally about 10 -12 hours (or just just check the status on your charger display). If your charger does not has trickle charge facility, you have to disconnect your charger after 12 hours continuous use.

Also, you can find the guidance about your charger here :

Will a set of 11'' shocks fit on a 2003 Rebel? They came off of a Vento Cruiser (250cc)

If you already have them give them a try but I believe that they will wind up pushing the rear swing arm down into the mufflers. I've tried to put longer shocks on my Rebel, but I think they were 11 1/4 or 11 1/2 inches.

Yes it can be, do you have access to a volt meter? Get to the battery and read the volts as it is running. or take the battery to a local parts store to check the Cranking amps. They can see if it is a good battery. If it is good and holds a charge, you will have to check the charging system on the bike.

starter brushes could be worn out or a dirty or loose connection!
Starter button may need checking also the solenoid
week compressin or leaking diaphrams in carbs will cause it too
