There is a sight window on the right side of the engine by the brake pedal. It may look brown or black. There is a screw in the window that operates a wiper inside the window. Once the window is clean, you should see an upper and lower level mark. You might want to consider purchasing a dip stick kit from J.C. Whitney. They are available for about $25.
Be sure to put the bike on center stand for oil check.

I have owned two goldwings... 82 and 83... both had that annoying glass window with the wiper in it... stupidest feature on the bike.... but if you want to check your oil, make sure you are on the center stand, give the wiper a couple turns, then take a look...

Yep yep, agreed with JRR. Get the dipstick kit. WIth the oil window, the only REAL way to check your level==drain the oil and measure it, then put it back in. I haven't even ONE single time been able to read my oil level from that annoying window. I've tried, even tried to back light it by shining lights down the filler opening. Too dark to see, and the wiper, after being almost 30 years old doesn't hardly even touch my view window. ,IMHO, the worst design component on this bike.

Warm up engine while on center stand. Shut engine off and let set for a few minutes. Then unscrew the dipstick and pull it out and wipe it off with clean towel. Replace dip stick but do not screw it in but firmly seat it with you fingers. Oil level needs to be between the two marks.

1993 honda goldwing smokes on start up

That's normal. Think about this, you park your bile on the side stand. Oil from the crank case makes it's way to the piston rings. A small amount of oil makes it way past the rings to the combustion chamber. This in its self is not an indicator of a bad engine since the goldwing engine is a flat opposed engine and is usually leaned to the left on the sidestand.

Where is the engine oil dip stick on the honda goldwing gl1100

If I recall there is not dipstick but a sight glass on side of engine.

Should be on right hand side in front of brake pedal.

Just bought 1982 gl 1100 goldwing and wantto know which mark on dip stick is max. , lots of dots and notches, how many inches high ?

HI YOU WILL HAVE A LOWER MARK, THIS REPRESENTS THE LEAST AMOUNT OF OIL YOU SHOULD HAVE IN THE ENGINE, AN UPPER MARK WHICH REPRESENTS THE MAX AMOUNT OF OIL, ALL THE SPACE IN BETWEEN IS AN ACEPTABLE AMOUNT OF OIL, THIS IS THE AREA YOU DESCRIBE AS HAVING DOTS, REMEMBER THIS IS A DIPSTICK AND THE OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE READ WHEN THE DIPSTICK IS RESTING ON TOP AND NOT SCREWED INTO THE THREADED HOLE WITH THE MACHINE ON A LEVEL FOOTING

How do you check oil level on a 1988 GL1500 Goldwing

Place your motorcycle on the center stand. On the right rear corner of the engine (on the top) is a dip stick. Pull out the dipstick , wipe it off, and put it back in the motor. Now pull the dip stick out and check that the oil level is between the high and low mark. If it is low top it off with JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. 10w-40 for cold climate . 20w-50 for warm climate and touring. Do not use any oil that says Energy Conserving on the label , it will shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Synthetic oil will help your bike run cooler and shift easier.

Just bought new 09 honday goldwing and noticed I have an oil leak which seems to be coming higher up maybe like around engine anything on this?

It is frustrating to stop an oil leak if you don't find the correct source of the problem. This might be due to poor valve and cover gaskets. The back hole might have some sludges or became restricted due to improper choice of oil and due to lack of oil change.
