I think you need to replace the 2nd. gear. most likely you have to rebuilt the trany get a good mechanic because need to take motor out of frame and open the bottom part of the engine.

Figure it's either the bulb, a fuse, wiring (broken or disconnected wire), or the sending unit (on transmission).

Fuel Problem

If your compression is good on ALL cylinders, you still have a carb issue. You have to be extremely thorough when "rebuilding" or cleaning out. There is small holes on the sides of most pilot jets that a lot of people overlook.

Needing to know how to take the front wheel off of a 1995 ZX-6. It looks easy but I dont want to jack anything up.

Get yourself a manual, Google it, there are plenty for sale and if you hunt hard enough you should find a freebie. It is easy, it is the putting it back on correctly that is the hard part. :D

I have a third gear that slips out, is that common for a 98. what do i have to do to fixit?

tommy, i dont recall that being a common problem with that bike, if you bought the bike used the last owner may have been speed shifting it some call it power shifting, you may have to have cases split in order to fix problem. when you say slips out can you still up shift to next gear.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your description indicates that the battery is not charging when the engine is running. This could be:
  • faulty regulator;
  • loose/corroded connector/terminals at the regulator;
  • loose wire/terminal from the regulator to the battery + terminal;
  • loose battery ground to chassis/harness;
  • loose ground from regulator.
Check and correct based on the above.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
