You might have to remove the engine side cover to get it out.

Do you need to lift the motor to get the old pan out on a 98 fxdwg

HI Don, thanks to the Harley Gods the answer is no. Just remove the dipstick, the oil filler spout, and the dipstick cover. Un-bolt and lower oil pan, you might have to use ball allens to facilitate removal. Good luck

1980 yamaha xt500.Oil level drops on the dipstick.Continually topping it up, however when I eventually drain oil I have much more than is required. There is no major leaks and doesn't blow smoke. Why is...

I f your bike has the remote oil tank, I think there is a non return valve in one of the oil lines which may be stuck open allowing oil to settle in the sump.

How much oil does XR 400 2004 model take

If you are just changing the oil 1.8 quarts.
If you are changing the oil and filter 1.9 quarts.
If you disassembled the motor 2.3 quarts.
Use only JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. Remember to run the motor for 5 minutes before checking the oil level at the dipstick. The frame neck is where the dipstick is located. If you check the level with out running the motor you will read no oil on the dipstick and will probably end up overfilling the engine with oil.

How do you change the oil on a 1985honda aspencade goldwing?

Center stand the motorcycle.First place your pan under the oil filter cover under the front right corner of the machine. Using a six point socket loosen the filter cover bolt and remove the cover. Dump out the oil in the cover being careful to save the spring and the washer that is stuck to the filter. Many Goldwings have lost there washer in a previous oil change , if lost replace the washer. If you desire change the o-ring on the bolt and the o-ring on the cover. Put the bolt back into the cover and place the spring first over the bolt, then the washer, then the filter , so the spring is pushing the filter against the engine. Put the new filter onto the motorcycle and snug up the cover bolt just enough so the oil wont leak out. Do Not Over Tighten The Cover Bolt. Now place the pan under the right rear corner of the motor. You will find a horizontal bolt near the bottom right rear corner of the main block of the motor. It will have an aluminum or copper sealing washer. Take off the bolt and let the oil drain out. When the oil is finished draining , put the bolt back in with a new sealing washer , if needed , and snug up the bolt just enough so that it does not leak or come out. Again do not over tighten the bolt. Now pour in the new oil through the dipstick hole. Be sure you use JASO MA certified motorcycle oil. You will need 4 quarts but you may have a partial quart left over. The quantity is something between 3.4 and 4 quarts. Run the bike and double check the oil level with your dipstick so you do not over fill.

How many quarts of oil does it hold? and can i use a good motor oil as long as it meets SL and SJ specs like the bike calls for or does it have to be motorcycle oil?

look on the engine case nearest the dipstick for a "CC" designation...All quarts of oil show a "CC" measurement on their bottle...Use that designation on the engine and do the math to arrive at the capacity. You can use ANY oil you want within the correct weight ie: 15/40W. I'd recommend Shell Rotella Synthetic 15/40W about $5 qt at Walmart.
My best guess on capacity is near 1.8qts...Why not add 1.5 qts and check using the dipstick?
Good Luck

Crank case oil capacity

Add it in the dipstick hole, bike level on level ground. I f you have changed oil put in 1 qt and check dipstick, then slowly fill from there checking level periodically as you go. buy 3 qts at the store, buy a quality motorcycle oil NOT car oil. I recommend Castrol Syntec Actevo 10-40wt...Good luck to you friend....Tim

I'm feeling stupid. I can't seem to find the oil dipstick on my wife's 02 Honda Shadow ACE Deluxe. Please open my eyes for me.

It is on the right side of the motor next to mufflers or it doesn't have a dipstick it has a glass window on the left side of the motor close to the bottom of machine.

Can't find dip stick to check oil on suzuki motorcycle c90t

there is no dipstick on suzki . Stand beside your bike and look on the bottom
ride side of your motor . look for a little
round glass window . That is how you
check . if the oil is half way up the glass
when you stand bike straight up . you are ok. change every 3000, plus filter
