Your pinions will be worn.
Better look for another gear set.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty wiring to any safety switch.
2. Safety switches loose at the mounting point.
3. Faulty kickstand safety switch.
4. Failed kickstand safety switch circuit diode.
5. Stretched side stand spring.
6. Side stand not coming up far enough to disengage switch.
7. Faulty clutch lever safety switch.
8. Faulty neutral safety switch.
9. Clutch not properly adjusted.
10. Clutch plates sticking, forward lurch

I have a 2000 R6 and sometimes it wont select gear (as though you hit a false neutral) It doesn't loose power or anything like that. Any ideas???

Hi, Daniel you may have a bent shifting fork for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. Kawasaki vn1500 2nd gear jumping out

Hi, make sure your lever is adjusted to your foot. You can turn the linkage arm adjuster up or down to get a better throw on the lever. If you don't wear boots when riding, this is always a problem on a Kawasaki due to the positive neutral finder. The fist question you get when you call the Kawasaki Hotline is if the rider wears boots or not.
If adjusting the lever doesn't help the problem is internal. Under the gear change cover the items to check would be the pawl that rotates the drum and the detent arm and spring. If the edge of the pawl is worn, it won't move the drum far enough. If the detent arm or spring isn't working, it will want to drop into a false neutral. I've had very good luck by removing all of the parts and polishing them, removing any burrs and replacing the springs. If the problem isn't found under the cover in the gear change area then the only other solution is to pull the motor apart and inspect the tranny itself.

My bike is not shifting into fourth gear, it goes into neutral instead of going into gear. The rest of the gears work fine, i have already tried adjusting the shift linkage to no avail. any help would be...

you might have something bent inside your tranny, there are things inside the tranny take can wear out cause a false neutral. i'm given you link so you can see the gear and things inside your tranny the gears side and lock into one another if the " dogs" that lock the gears together or worn it can cause a false neutral.

i would have a local shop take a look at it. lucky harley has a separate tranny from the motor while the can get very costly this could be your chance to upgrade, baker has a really nice 6 speed talk with your local shop.
Good luck

Check that you have a spark at you plugs ,first .and that you are getting fuel to the cylinders .As for your neutral light check that its not got dirt on the actual gear neutral switch unit and is not making contact . .

Neutral light does not come on until 2nd gear is engaged

The neutral light should only light between 1st and 2nd gears. There may be a "false neutral" at other places. Wear exacerbates (i love big words) the size of these but they don't hurt anything as long as the bike shifts well.

Jumps out of gear when brake hard

The crunching noise is the slider gear going into the chosen gear. This is normal. The false neutral is likely just a case of shift pedal
adjustment. When braking hard you probably have your toe on top of the shift lever. If so then lower the front of the shift lever one or two notches. If your toe is below the shift lever then raise the lever one or two notches. THis adjustment should fix the problem.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Gearbox

I was having some problem and thought my box had issues til my dads next door neighbour said try adjusting your clutch cable. i thought its worth a try gave it a bash and it worked.i did it at the handle bar end of the cable under the rubber cover. its a tiny bit harder to get neutral but not as annoying as the racket in makes when you get false neutral on the way up the gears.
