The bike has a wet clutch and the engine oil lubricates it. There is no transmission fluid.

You are incorrect. I own a 2003 FLHTCUI. Engine oil, clutch and transmissions use different fluids. You NEVER use engine oil in a transmission.

What size is the album head screw to the check transmission fluid on my 2000 Softail.? I will need to purchase that specifically in the correct size.

Hi Jeff, all 2000 big twins came with a dipstick to check transmission fluid level. If memory serves me correctly there were some early FLT/FXR models that came with a fluid level plug that was about half way up on out side cover that took a 3/16" allen. That being said I highly recommend you buy a complete set of allen wrenches or allen sockets for two reasons. They are relatively inexpensive less than $10 if you buy them at Harbor Frieght or other discount place and your going to use the other sizes anyways. Good luck

Transmission oil level checking and changing

You can check the oil level by removing the 3/8 inch Allen socket oil fill and level guage/plug and you can change the fluid by removing the 5/8 inch hax plug on the right side middle bottom of the transmission case.

I changed my ,02 roadkings trans. fluid --only 16oz drained out --i had the bike level--put 20oz back in --no reading on dipstick--do you check oil with bike level or on stand--also do you measure level...

Check the level of the transmission lube with the bike standing straight up. The transmission holds between 20 and 24 ounces of oil. I always put 24 ounces in them. It should check on the dipstick without the dipstick screwed in. Do not overfill.

Good Luck

How do i check transmission fluid level

On the right side of the bike on the transmission, there is a chrome end cap. This is the clutch release mechanism. On top of it is a plug that takes a 3/8" hex key or Allen wrench to remove. Stand the bike up straight and take the plug out. It has a dip stick on it. Wipe it off and stick it back in the hole, don't screw it n. Take it out and the fluid level should be between the two lines. Your transmission holds 20-24 ounces of transmission lube. It came with H-D Syn 3, 20W50 engine oil in it.

Good Luck

I dont know how to check the transmission fluid level on my ktm 125sx

most transmission fluids on motorcycles are topped up until it is full if it has a side filling hole (stars to run out of side) with motorcycle level (like on ceneterstand). a top filling hole will have a dipstick. basically you want the gearshafts half submerged in oil.
