Question about 2007 Honda VTX 1800 R

1 Answer

Honda VTX 1300R I bought the bike from Florida and live in Ontario Canada. It only has 700 miles on it but it runs ruff from the get go. They say it may be because the jets are made for sea level and we are at about 800' above. It seems to be worse in the colder weather. I have used carb cleaner but it is not long term. Do I need to change the jets or overhaul and clean the carb?

The cheapest route is to overhaul the and clean the carb. The only pproblem is that you can have both of them be the problem. On mine I had to replace the jets and overhaul the carb to get it running right. It ran better when I just did the carb but not how I wanted it to.

Recheck fuel flow wth float bowl removed allow floats to hang free. And fuel will flow out, remove float needle check for sticking in seating, remove secondary jet and clean with fine wire to remove fuel contamination, also main jet, if all else fails find a used carburettor to replace old one

Backfiring on deceleration from exhaust pipes

May be running too lean or too rich. Check the color of your plugs, black dry and sooty means they are rich, white with blisters lean.

VTX 1300R 07 ran out of gas and won't start, put fuel in it.

Does your bike have a petcock?

If so you have to prime the fuel bowls with gas by opening the pet **** for a minute until the fuel bowls are full of fuel THEN you set your choke if you have a manual choke THEN start the bike.

Battery access

Battery is under the seat. There is little room for you to add a charger, as such, shy of getting such a charger recommended by your Honda shop designed for such.

It is probably better if you start your bike once each week and let it run. This will keep fresh gas in the carb and your battery charged up during these difficult months of winter.

Your bike should have 3 main wires in the rear even if they split to power 2 bulbs each.
1 for brake light
1 for night rear light
1 for ground.
Your trailer should have additionally 2 more for the turn signals.
