Car power stays on ex (radio, windshield wipers) when ignition is off and keys are removed. Dealer says plastic piece in steering column is broke leaving accessory switch still on when key is removed. They say i have to replace whole steering column instead of replacing plastic piece.

SOURCE: windshield wiper switch inop., except when pushed for washer.

My solution is as follows: Place a 1K-OHM resistor (Radio Shack Part # 271-1118) between the orange/white stripe wire (power) and the green/yellow stripe wire of the mullti-switch terminal block of the steering column. This provides the speeds - normal and intermittent speeds but not high wiper speed. Less than a $1 solution instead of the costly BTM replacement.

SOURCE: replaced key lock and ignition box on steering

You've probably got to slide the ignition switch toward the steering wheel and lock it down there.

Broken windshield washer wiper arm 2005 Saturn Vue

If you don't know electrics DON'T mess with them. This sadly won't be a 'fix it' problem, it's a 'replace it' problem. On most modern cars the steering column stalks are designed to easily break off as a crash safety feature. The whole assembly will need to be replaced.
Simplest start point here is to pull the relay for the wipers. The relay is in the fuse box under the hood. It is marked as "FRT WIPER" on the lid. It should be a square, black, plastic block in the bottom left corner. These are normally a tight fit but it should just pull up and out. It only works the wipers so your not hurting anything else when you do it.
Try this website for a diagram of the fuse and relay layout.

2002 elantra no power to wipers radio head lights and heat

Please check for codes in the OBD system. Check Battery and Charging System. If no codes perform following test procedure.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the Black power connector in the under dash fuse box. Wiggle it with the lights on and see if they malfunction.

2. Wiggle the wiring harness from the ignition switch around the steering column with the lights on and see if they malfunction.

3. Monitor the key on battery voltage from the ignition switch at terminal 3, Red wire at the ignition switch to terminal 3 of connector I/P-E in the under dash fuse box.

4. See if the vehicle has any aftermarket accessories installed that may be tapped into that Red wire from the ignition switch to the fuse box.

1986 volkswagen windshield wipers will not turn off?

look for signs of a windshield leaking water into fuse/relay box- located near pedals under dash. Also remove small plastic trim below steering wheel ( 2 screws) and unplug black connector with 6 or 8 wires directly under steering column. Turn key on if wipers are stopped then your switch is bad- steering wheel must be removed to change switch.

I need to know how to replace my turn signal switch on my steering wheel my windshield washer turner broke off so either I need to know how to fix the windshield washer switch or just replace the whole...

The turn signal switch or in Ford terms "multi-function" switch is easy to replace if you are mechanically inclined. Lower the steering column "tilt" adjustment for easier access. Remove the lower panel (below the steering column). Remove the three screws from the plastic column covers that surround the multi-function switch. Turn the key to the run position, then from the bottom side of the column, use a very small pocket screwdriver, allen wrench or similiar tool to push up on the ignition cylinder release pin. The hole is located just below the cylinder. With the pin pushed, pull out on the key and cylinder. Next seperate the two cover halves and you will see the complete multi-function switch. remove the two attaching screws, remove the electrical connectors and replace the switch. Replace all removed components and you're done! You can purchase the switch at most auto parts stores, ford dealers or ebay. Feel free to ask if more information is needed and I appreciate a vote of four thumbs up. Good luck!

Remove ignition lock to switch link 1995 suburban

The ignition lock assembly contains two components: a lock cylinder to deter theft and an electrical portion that supplies power to electrical components such as the radio, electric windows, and windshield wipers. The electrical portion of the ignition switch also provides power to the starter motor to start the engine.
The ignition lock is an anti-theft device that prevents a vehicle from being driven unless the ignition key is in the ignition switch. If the ignition key is not in the ignition switch, it 's impossible to turn the steering wheel.
To replace the ignition switch cylinder lock, the trim panels around the steering wheel are removed. Then the tamper-proof hardware that attaches the ignition lock assembly to the steering column is removed. The ignition lock assembly is removed from the steering column, and the lock cylinder is replaced. The new ignition lock is reattached to the steering column, and the trim panels are replaced.make sure you dissconect battery first the 1997 had a recall on the ignition switch dont no if the 1995 had a recall if so they will replace for free

Ive replaced dist cap and rotor coil is firing but no fire to plugs

check for power to the coil, if there is no power...its a possible ignition switch failure. The ignition switches in these models have defective internal contacts, resulting in power loss to vital electrical components. You may check the ignition switch by removing the plastic cover around the steering column. Its a white round plastic unit with wires coming out, and located behind the key cylinder. Inspect for internal archs or black/burnt residue. Call you local Honda dealer for recall info, they will need your vin#...Hopefully this helps

When I start my 2003 buick lesabre the windshield wipers come on by themselves and continue intermittenantly until they stop.

Behind your ignition inside the steering column, there is a plastic piece that screws to the back that has to do with your accessories. its bad or your wiper control stick also located on the steering column is bad.

Ignition

Ok,if you pull the cover off the steering column, you will see the electrical part of the ignition,it is the part the key cylinder is inserted in and the wires run down to a connector about halfway down the steering column.Just replace that piece and all should be fine.
