Question about 1999 Suzuki GSX-R 600

1 Answer

Just Won't Start :o(

Hey guy n gals, seem to have a problem with my gsx-r 600, basically it's been parked up over the winter months and the battery went dead. Took it off and charged it up and now put it back on. Seems plently of life in the battery and everything works, the fuel pump primes when you turn the ignition on but when I go to start her up all I get is a dull click and nothing.
I thought perhaps it was the alarm playing up and not turning the immobiliser off but everything seems to be working. So I'm at a bit of a loss what else could it be?
Any info would be greatly recieved.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The click is significant. This indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either indicate a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:

  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Lexus Rx400h, the engine won't start. the lights, including dashboard lights, aircon, radio are on, just won't go to ready and start

Can you ensure the car is in park?
Move lever to D and then back into Park and see what happens.
I have heard with this particular model, we have the environmentally unfriendly RX 330, that the batteries lack of charge may play havock with the electrics in these cars.
I religously charge my battery every six months with a smart charger so its always in peak, I also find a quick zap at the first cold snap of autumn / winter gives us trouble free motoring.

Hey guys, is the 2000 GSX 600 Katana liquid or air cooled? I"ve been seeing air/oil cooled...if thats true, what does that mean? Thanks.

if it is air/oil cooled then the wind blowing on it wen your driving cools it. also the oil while circulating through the engine cools the engine.

Battery wont hold a charge

Need more details, but if the battery hasn't been changed since you bought it you defintely need a new one. May also want to get a trickle charger to keep it topped off through winter months or time when not riding frequently.

If that's a pic of your bike, very nice!

On returning yesterday from a 3 week holiday our 6 month old honda wont start . The recovery guy said the battery was flat and used jump leads to get it started . We took it for a drive , and find today...

Disconnect your battery (+ ) terminal for a minute or so, then reconnect. I've had where my vehicle came back from Florida, the night before, to the nice cold winter in Ontario Canada, and I had to disconnect battery to basically re-program all the sensors etc, to recognize difference in temperatures. After I did that, it started up fine, no more problems. I don't suspect your vehicle was exposed to any big difference in outside temperatures, but it costs nothing to try this, and I've seen stranger things happen.
