Engine dosent stay on

I just installed a vance and hines exhaust and the engine will only stay running with the choke on.  I'm going to get the carbs jetted but shouldnt it still run?

Not nessesarily.
changing the exhaust system usually requires rejetting the carb.
a different exhaust pipe will give/make the exhaust back pressure change. you should of gotten a paper with instructions saying something about changing the jetting.

No power when give it gas.

believe carb adjustment bad & carb needs to be rejetted to exhaust, believe you need to add a higher flow gas valve & possibly new plugs & wires

My 97 fat boy seems to run lean and has a hesitation when the tap is opened. Works fine with the choke on. No induction leaks that I can find. Has stock carb, vance and hines 2-1 exhaust.

With aftermarket pipes they will almost always run on the lean side due to the reduction in back pressure...Retuning the carb is required. If you have an aftermarket air intake, this will also effect it.

Hi Litebeer_99, and the usual suspects are:

I bought a 1983 gs1100e i have put a vance and hines 4 into 1 exhaust and installed uni air filters need to know whats the best jets to upgrade to

Check into a set of stage 3 jets, you will need to take the bike to a bike shop to have them put in as well as have the carbs resinked afterwards.

I have a 2000 Honda VT1100 Sabre Shadow. It's got aftermarket Vance and Hines pipes. It continues to have a backfire when moving up through the gears. I've had the jets (and K&N filter and plugs)...

When you installed the Vance and Hines pipes did you use new gaskets? Popping and backfiring is often caused by leaking copper o-rings in the head to head pipe connection , or head pipe to muffler gasket. Sealing the system will prevent oxygen igniting the unburned fuel in the exhaust pipe. Hopefully , this is all you need to stop the popping.

Bike dies at idle, have to choke it even when temp is 95. only upgrade on bike I know of is vance and hines longshots

Most likely gummed up jets from sitting for an extended time. remove carbs and clean out jets. see if that solves your problem. before you do this though remove your fuel line after filter and check for adequate fuel flow.

Question about Vance and Hines quiet baffles

about 3-5db but you must remember db is not a linear scale but logirythmic. basicallyy the baffles will remove the harsh rasp off the pipe and make them deep in sound, when cold they will be as loud as normal but once they have some heat in them they quieten down
