If its wet black/shiny black - thats oils fouled which can be worn rings, loose valves weak battery or bad ignition. If its sooty/dry black then u are running too rich or idling too long

What is the preferred gap for spark plug to a 2007 HD streetglide its want start after riding hard. It has to cool down then starts right up

electronic ignition .050"
plug gap has nothing to do with hard starting when hot but a failing ignition system that is failing when components over heat does. ignition module , coil/s are items that could be checked when hot to ensure correct voltages are present

You can best obtain this from an H-D parts or service counter and ask them to print it off for you OR buy an electrical service manual would be the next best option/route to go.

Hi Anonymous, if you have a carburator the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system (gas cap).
2. Inlet system air leak.
3. Vacuum piston malfunction.
4. Accelerator pump leaking or no output.
5. Plugged bowl vent.
6. Fuel level (float chamber) too low.
7. Restriccted fuel supply passages.
8. Plugged jets or passages.
9. Worn or damaged needle or needle jet.
10. Enrichner valve not seated or leaking.
Good luck and have nice day.

Do not know where to connect hour meter wire to the spark plug

One wire is the flexible silicone rubber wire from the spark plug to the ignition coil. You don't have to strip or connect the other wire, just wrap it around the spark plug wire a few turns. The current from the spark ignition will induce a signal into the hour meter that the meter uses to determine when the motor is on or off. I hope this helps and good luck.1b05a64.jpg
