Question about 1998 Honda CBR 600 F(3)W

97 cbr f3 choke and starting out problems

My bike will not crank with the choke open.My bike will crank only when i have the choke lever pushed all the way down. As soon as i put it in first the engine cuts off. As soon as I move ithe lever up "to open choke" the engine cuts off.
Ive also noticed the rpm is at 3k when i start it up like this. I try to adjust the knob to lower the rpm but i get no response when i turn it left or right.

have the carbs been removed for a cleaning recently? sounds like the bike is running on the choke (enrichment circuit) only and then once this is turned off, it then dies. go with joboo1's recommendation to remove carbs and clean them thoroughly.

Hi, The mixture is too rich. Was the bike sitting for awhile? The carbs should be cleaned and adjusted. Good Luck!

It sounds like the cable to the the speedo and the tach may need to be replaced. check them and replace if needed.

My 95 f3 will crank but wont start. everything was working fine replace a headlight now it wont start with the starter. battery is charged and i can push start it but the engine just cranks and cranks and...

Sounds like a wire or plug got disconnected while changing the headlight out, the harness that connects to the clutch safety switch, the one that lets the ignition fire when cranking only when the clutch is pulled in. A safety feature so you don't dump the bike if you crank it while in gear.

98 CBR F3 doesn't stay running w/o choke on

There seems to be fuel starvation to the carbs.
Check the fuel filter and the petcock, not bad too to clean the carb/s.

Choke

The choke is closed (pushed away from you) to start the bike. When it has warmed up the lever can be pulled back toward you opening the choke back up.

Starting problems

Check the compression. If it has low compression it will always be difficult to start. I have the same bike. It is a really good starter, comparatively to other older 'cycles I own. 1) Check the fuel level in the tank, and be sure to turn the fuel switch (left side of bike below tank and seat) to On, or even Reserve 2) In stock tuning, my bike likes full choke for cold start, in any ambient temperature, it likes to warm up with the choke on, until it starts to sputter from the rich mixture. 3) I believe this bike has vacuume tube that goes to the fuel petcock, this shuts off fuel to carbs when bike is not running. Thus if the bike has not run in a while, or the carbs drained, it will take several start attempts to get the carb float bowls filled. 4) This bike is hard to start if the battery is old or marginally charged. 5) Also pull the spark plugs, if they are brown, or black, change them. 6) check the air cleaner, if it is too dirty it will essentially act like a choke
