Question about 2004 Harley Davidson FXDWG - FXDWGI Dyna Wide Glide

1 Answer

After replacing tank and speedo cluster, will not start.

Checked all plug-ins, fuel lines. "Run" switch does not seem to be "activating" the fuel pump. Hit start and the red key lock comes on. Any ideas?

Put your key in and turn the bike off and on 3 times and see if that will help. If the switch connection is loose it wont turn the fuel pump on.

Wont tick over

Don't be desperate. You say it will not tick over ... does this mean the starter will not run when you press the button? If this is the case, I would suspect the battery. You should check the voltage and you should find at least 11 volts. You can have the battery checked where batteries are sold. Also worth considering is the start solenoid. You can check this with a volt/ohm meter also. But before you do anything else ... try starting again after you make the following checks: Gas tank full and fuel valve on ... let me say that again ... Gas in the tank and the fuel valve in the on position - Make sure your kick stand is in the stored position, Make sure transmission is in neutral, Make sure you have pulled in on the clutch lever and Make sure the kill switch is in the RUN position.

Chances are there is a water build up in the carb float bowls. The water comes from condensation in the gas tank. Try draining the carbs. Another possibility is carburetor main jets partially plugged up. You must clean the carbs if plugged jets are found to be the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_152.gif

I have a 1983 cb550sc honda that has a starting problem. when it's cold it only runs on no.1 cyl and all other exh pipes are cold. i have checked all systems and can't find the problem. compression is...

I certainly wouldn't rule out a fuel restriction, either in tank where fuel drains to line, or line(s) to carburetors. When cold, more fuel required, plus once engine starts to run, vacuum from carbs may overcome restriction, as well as less fuel required. My guess is that heavy acceleration is a problem even when warm as well. Doesn't take long to check in tank to see if filter/screen in tank is plugged at all, as well as remove fuel line for carbs and use compressed air (carefully) to clean out line(s) as well as blow back into tank to dislodge debris at screen in tank, but if there is debris, remove tank and flush good. Any in-line filters should be replaced as well.

06 m50 sat for approx 6 months charged the battery won't start.

from your description, i would sugest you make sure fuel is getting to the injector unit, remove the fuel supply hose.if you have spark at the plugs and fuel getting to the injectors you have isolated the problem. i would also drain the old fuel when you take the hose off and fill the tank with high grade fuel. bikes dont like old gas.
