My 2004 Yamaha V-Star Silverado 1100's fuel cap fell apart and now after spending a ton of money at the dealer for one it seems that tank is vapor locking after riding for a while. It will **** and...

Did you happen to get resolution on this? My gas cap on my 04 1100 classic just fell apart this weekend. It looks like there might be some screws that rattled out and now I'm concerned that I have parts loose in the tank. I didn't spend the $$$ on a new cap yet as I was looking for options. Just doesn't seem right for a cap to just fall apart.

I tried to open the gas tank (lock) but i stick my key in (also tried the spare) but the lock would not turn. I looked up some toubleshooting and used wd40 in the lock and along the rubber seal outside but...

There is either a small piece of something keeping you from fully inserting the key , the lock is broken, or the lock has been replaced and the replacement uses a different key. On my 2009 Ex250 the key turns 1/4 turn clockwise and is very easy to turn. Worst case scenario, you may have to drill the tumblers out of the lock. Even if you undue all the top screws but the cap will not come off. There is one security screw under neath to keep the fuel thieves from just taking the top off. If you damage the cap beyond use you can always replace it with a Slingshotracing gas cap. You could take the tank to a locksmith to see if they can pick it. Hope this helps.

Fuel in the oil when running

Fuel in the oil typically happens when you park the bike but do not turn off the petcock. If the float sticks or a float needle leaks the fuel will run in the manifold and past the rings into the oil. Back in 1983 the CB650SC (even when new) would do this occasionally for no reason whatsoever. If all your components are in good shape or have been replaced , the best way to eliminate the potential for this problem is to get in the habit of turning your gas off when not riding. If gas gets in your oil because you leave the petcock on , and all the carb components are in good order, your only option is to change the oil before continuing to drive. If you are having the problem while you are driving, take your carbs apart and clean them , place your floats in gas to check there buoyancy and consider new needle and seat assemblies.

When I push the start button on my 03 Honda Shadow ACE, 750cc the bike wont start it does nothing. However with the button half way the bikes starts, bad switch?

The button is supposed to turn off the headlight when pushed in halfway and engage the solenoid when pushed in the rest of the way. It is not supposed to engage the starter halfway but NOT all the way. I think the button is either dirty , shorting ,or damaged. You can carefully take it apart and try cleaning it . If that does not work, you will have to replace the switch assembly. New or used , either is fine as long as it works. Honda only sells the switch with the housing as an assembly.

Change the oil

1.prepare materials needed such as:
  • An allen wrench or screwdriver (for fairing removal, if necessary.)
  • An oil filter wrench (for removing the oil filter.)
  • The appropriate crush washer for your oil drain plug-- this can be purchased from a hardware store or motorcycle service shop.
  • A pair of needle-nose pliers, in case the oil filler cap is hard to reach or tightly screwed on.
  • An adjustable socket wrench.
  • Clean rags.
  • The proper amount of manufacturer-recommended engine oil.
  • A new, manufacturer-approved oil filter.
  • A funnel
2. Unscrew the oil filter caps 3. Remove the oil rain plug 4. Replace and remove the crush washer 5. Clean the oil drain plug 6. Remove the oil filter 7. remove and clean plastic mesh filter 8. Lubricate the O-ring of the new filter and attach it to the engine 9. Replace Oil drain plug and plastic mesh filter then pour oil 10. Check oil level

Why is my wrf 450 petrol tank getting cracks in it

Plastic tank? If so, I suggest it is due to old age and/or the new 10% ethanol gasoline. I had a plastic funnel crack and fall apart on me that I'd had for years. I was pouring the new gas through it when it fell apart, maybe a co-incidence, but I think it was the gas.

Were there any recalls on gas cap on the 2001 V Star 650 The lock mechanism fll apart

No, there are not. I reviewed Yamaha's complete list of Service Bulletins, which includes recalls, and there is not any bulletin addressing the issue your bike has. I have heard of it before, where the screws fall out and the lock mechanism falls off, but I have not seen a bulletin on that subject.
The good news would be, at least they fell into the tank where you can get them out and reassemble your cap. It would be a good idea to mentally note the screws that hold the mechanism together from now on anytime you gas the bike up.

Gas cap v star 650

best bet would be to get a new one also remembering how much the dealers charge for there products i would go aftermarket threw partsunlimited, cruiser, or Tucker rocky but the dealer still has to order it for you, all have great quality products at cheaper prices than O.E.M replacements unless your still under warranty.

Will luggage mounts from other airheads fit?

No pannier frames for the r65 are the only one that will fit. the rack fits to the frames. If you have the r65LS then you will need to make brackets to move the rack back so you can still open the seat.

2003 yamaha v-star 1100 gas cap assembly instructions. The screws fell out of my gas cap and the gas cap fell apart. I need to be sure that I have all the parts out of my gas tank. I need a gas cap...

You are probably not going to find assembly instructions. If you can't find all the parts or screws then get another cap. Google " motorcycle salvage yamaha " and you can probably find one at a much lower cost than the dealer would give. By the way, forget any loose screws in the gas tank. The stuff can not get past the fuel valve and filter and are not going to hurt anything.
