Check the battery voltage and connections.check the starter solenoid.see if it has power to it on small wire going to it, when you press start button.(this is the box w/ 2 posts & 2 cables attatched to it)use a 12 volt test light to do this. check cable tightness.SHORTCUT-turn key on,place bike in neutral, take large screwdriver & make contact across both posts of solenoid.bike should crank if everything else is ok. if you tested for power to the solenoid and it was present, but bike only starts w/ screwdriver trick-solenoid is bad.

White smoke is classic head gasket problems in water cooled engines ... Your engine is air cooled but you can still have top end troubles. I suggest you have your motorcycle checked by a professional before you ride much more. info on your ride here: http://www.honda2wheelersindia.com/activa/specifications.html

01 yamaha r1 overheating at idle on hot day, but fans are working?

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Low coolant level.
2. Restricted radiator air flow.
3. Faulty thermostat.
4. Coolant pump or fans inoperative.
5. Vent hose crimped.
6. Air in the coolant and needs bleeding.
7. Engine idling too long or bike moving too slow.

I have a 2004 R1.start it and it runs fine. when I ride it more than a few miles and turn it off it wont start like batterys died. l just let it sit for maybe an hour it starts right up. I put on charger...

Hi, Tom and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.
11. Check for engine trouble codes.

When i was riding my 2006 r1, the lights suddenly turned off on me. the gauge cluster started to fliker. what does that usually mean and how to i go about fixing it?

It could be a few things. First thing is to check the connection on your battery. Are the cables on securely and ground wire attatched? Check the fuses, make sure none of them are burnt out or loose. Check the wiring harness to make sure none of the connections vibrated loose. If all this checks out then you may have to start checking your altenator, coil, fire box etc.

1 Answer

Ignition, electrical noise

does it have a fuel pump ?...it could be just priming itself..when the pump is already full you cant really hear the noise that much. Does the noise go away after riding for awhile and then restart it?
