The original gas tank on a 1998 F-250 Lariat has a capacity of 30 gallons. Because there is no mention of dual fuel tank capacity available, the 2nd fuel tank was likely added after purchase. Have you checked the 'inertia switch' which in the event of an accident shuts off the fuel supply to prevent a fire . It's usually located in the cab on pass. side. Some models have one reset button, some 2 which have to be pressed at the same time. If that's not it, here's how the power to the pump SHOULD work, you will have to follow the path to see where it stops. When you turn the key on it turns on the EEC power relay on, this relay then provides power to the PCM (power control module) and the control side of the fuel pump relay. Power for the fuel pump is supplied through a fuse link or high current fuse attached to the starter solenoid (battery side). From the fuse link or high current fuse current flows thru the fuel pump relay and inertia switch to the fuel pump. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the PCM. When the ignition switch is turned on the fuel pump will operate, if the switch is NOT turned to start position, the PCM will shut off the fuel pump off after 1 second. This is to avoid flooding the engine when it is not running, just key on. So check out to see if you have a fuse link or a high current fuse and if they are blown.

It should not cause no problems but instead of removing the tank leave it in the truck take out all the fuel in the tank and jus discontinue use of it. This will save you alot of time and trouble and i also suggest that if anyone besides you drives this vehicle then i would put a locking gas cap on it so it cant be accessed at anytime except by you.

Yes plug the lines that run fuel out. you may have to plug return hoses from motor that return unsed fuel
