Why does my 1997 s10 truck keep backfiring and dying out or almost dying out

First its a little hard to stay started. when i release gas pedal sometimes it dies. or when it does start up it keeps back firing and white smokes comes out through the tail pipe then it dies or loses power and sort of studders till it dies out again

It is most likely a faulty injector if it has the throttle body type

Thanks. It does have a throttle body type. I will check on the injectors.

SOURCE: car is hard to start, keeps stalling, white smoke coming out of tail pipe

It sounds to me like you have a head gasket leaking. See if you can get a gauge and check each cylinder. Are you using alot of anti freeze?

SOURCE: car wont stay started unless foot is on pedal

you can try to see if the fuel regulator is bad, sometimes there will be gas in the air cleaner\tube,it sounds to me that its getting too much fuel

1983 s10 blazer low rough idle and trys to die when starting have to give it a little gas and put it into drive real quick then when slowing down keep foot on gas pedal as i also slow down with break pedal

Could be several things, a vac leak, dirty throttle body, or faulty idle air control valve.
The computer controls idle speed by how much air enters the throttle body thru the valve.
Usually a vac leak would speed up the engine unless it is causing the rough idle.

the first thing I would start with is looking for vaccume leaks. be sure to check your EGR valve, then move to your MAP sensor. The next thing that it could be is a stopped up catylic converter

So my gas gauge doenst work so I ran out of gas and died out on the side of the road. I walked to the gas station filled 10 dollars and filled my car up. Tried to start it but it sounded like it wanted to...

Hi!!If you keep trying to start the car with an empty tank, air gets in the lines an make it hard to start. Look in the fuel rail for the service port valve, it looks like the one tires, it has a plastic or metal cap, unscrew it and place a rag under while you push the valve with a small screwdriver, do not push too hard or you'll damage the valve. once you push and release the valve, turn the key to the ON position for 5 secs. and repeat the procedure, if needed do it again until you get a solid stream of gas. It will be nice to have somebody turning the key while you do the bleeding. It always worked for me. As a last resort, use starter fluid on the intake, manually open the throttle and spray a little, place the air hose and crank it up. Stay away from the intake when engine is cranking, it may backfire.
