SOURCE: 2nd gear does not work on my Yamaha Virago xv250

Sounds like a slightly bent shift fork. The slider gear isn't quite engaging into 2nd. If the bend gets worse then you won't get into first and the pedal will get real stiff in those gears. The repair is best done in the shop.

SOURCE: left cylinder won't fire...bike stalls in 3rd gear...

Check for spark on both cylinders. Chances are it has been years since anyone paid attention to the ignition points. Download a free PDF service manual at the site below. Get the 15th manual from the bottom of the Honda list. Yes, it is a 250cc manual but the points and timing are the same as the 200cc. It is the nearest free manual I could find. Google " service manuals honda " or try your local library. Often guys will donate manuals to the library.
or go to www.repairmanuals.com

FREE > http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp

Also Google " vintage honda parts "

If the gas tank is rusted inside then line it with a liquid liner. Google kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html

Drain the carburetors. There may be a screw on the lower side of each carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, (not all bikes have a water trap bowl). Install an in-line fuel filter. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carbs to fill with gas. Install new stock NGK spark plugs and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetors from the engine.

FOR EACH CARB > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire
carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.

SOURCE: my motorbike wont go into 3rd,4th,5th and 6th gear

make sure your foot is not holding the gear selecter after changing into second while riding as this would not let the bike go any higher through the gears

2007 Chevy Avalanche 3rd and 4th gear are not working

From what you are describing, it is possible either the 3-4 actuator is no longer playing with the 3rd & 4th clutch packs, only way to know for certain is to hook up the good ol' pressure gauge to trans. system, yeah, you think the Chevrolet dealer should know this right?

Sell it now if you can!

surely the bike is fuel injected, which might mean the fuel pump is playing up , which could be a pressure sensor in the system, you might need to get the computor scanned to see whats faulty

1989 pathfinder transmission 3spd w/ overdrive works great when first started, then downshifting starts way early, started after alternater wentbad

Do you mean upshifting starts way early? Going from 2nd to 3rd in other words?
Ireally don't know your transmission, but the alternator problem might've possibly spiked and hurt your shifting solenoids in the ******. don-ohio (:^)

No second gear

Instructions

1.
The 2nd gear lockout is, a mechanical speed sensing mechanism. It doesn't care if the engine is running. You bypass it by scooting the bike forward, about 5-6 mph, while shifting the transmission into 2nd gear.
2

Stand on the left side of the bike, with the ignition "ON" and the transmission in neutral.
3 With your right foot on the ground, behind your left foot: place your left foot on the left foot peg, with your toe under the shifter; squeeze in the clutch.
*4.Scoot the bike forward about 5-6 mph, with your right foot, and shift the transmission into 2nd gear, with your left foot. If you accidentally go into 3rd, or some higher gear, you can easily shift back down into 2nd, without further movement of the bike.
5.To start the bike: Apply the choke if the engine is cold. Squeeze in the clutch and push the bike forward, both feet on the ground, about 8-12 mph. Release the clutch until the engine start
6
As soon as the engine starts: squeeze in the clutch and shift the bike into neutral.

Sounds like a bent shift fork of broken dog gear. Try cleaning the inside of trans with part light oil and solvent. (not fuel) Rock bike a few times and shift gears, Do not start. Keep doing so untill shifting gets easier. If this does not work. Try starting it one time and shift easy. Do not force. Still no luck - Split cases and repair

My automatic focus sometimes will not go into gear properly

This may be caused by fluid starvation from a plugged trans filter, also a shift solenoid inside the trans may be sticking, I would recommend u change the trans fluid and filter (required at 60,000 miles), also go to a Kragen auto or any chain parts store like it and ask to have a code test run on the powertrain control module , it is free.
