Backfiring and seems to be struggling getting fuel

My Diversion started to backfire this morning, and on the way to work struggled as if not getting the fuel through, then it would suddenly lurch forward as if the fuel had got through okay. When puttng choke on it was as if I hadn't it didn't rev up. Was fine the day before.

thanks, bike runs okay in one sense, covered 25 miles, backfiring on the way, but not all the time. Bike has been off the road since early december, although I do start it and let it run. I can't get to a bike shop till tomorrow.

Problem isolated, turns out the ECU is knackered, bike in the bike shop waiting a part.

Check to make sure your plugs arent fouled. the last bike i had did that to me, fine in the morning and when i went to leave for work in the afternoon the bike ran like **** for a few seconds and shut off. i took the bike back to where i bought it and they replaced the plugs. ran fine after that.

A bike that backfires through the carb has ignition timing that is too far advanced. This will also cause bad starting. Get the timing fixed.

Bajaj pulsar 180 dtsi backfiring while starting? why? and missing after starting.

check first if all cylinders spark plugs are firing, seem like you are missing on one cylinder. this will cause as well backfiring.

if this is not the case then:

backfiring can be caused by too rich fuel mix or by wrongly set advance. there is unburnt fuel present in exorst and this cause backfire. these two are most "popular" causes of the backfiring.

hope this will help you solve the problem, do not forget to vote...

87 kawasaki ex500 backfiring not starting

There are many things that can make the engine to backfire.
(1) Water in fuel.
(2) Ignition timing, if it's out.
(3) Fuel level in the float chamber of the carb being too low.
What exactly did you do to it..or did it just started to backfire...was the bike stored for a long time?

My 97 road king flhr sometimes I will backfire through the air filter I think it maybe struggling to get air because iof need toto clean the airfiltetfirst and that's why it happens is there anything...

Hi Adam, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator or induction module can be caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Good luck and have nice day.

Motorbikes backfires, and is irratic with accelration.

Nice bike and an annoying issue. Backfire is unburnt fuel that then detonates.

Hopefully, it's just a plug going bad. Pull the plugs and see which one is black/wet. That will be the tell tale sign which cylinder is acting up.

I'd replace all, set the proper gap and install them and take it for a test drive.

Good luck hope this is a simple fix.

Backfiring, flames coming out of exhaust and cutting out

Sounds to be a timing problem or burnt exhaust valve.. A compression test will tell the story.

Spluttering/backfires on low throttle opening/struggles to build

yes clean carbs, use Berrymans B12 fuel additive in the gas, double dose run til hot, then put it away overnight. try next day. also change fuel filter if it's been standing all winter long.

you can try spray in carb cleaner too, remove aircleaner, raise slider in carb with finger or something and spray a bunch in there, let it sit overnight to get to work and try next day

also if fuel is old then get fresh

It is backfiring and when it idles it will cut off

sounds like a air leak to me , spray some wd40 gt85 etc on the manifold ( where the carb goes to the cylinders if the bike revs up high or struggles really bad then dies out you will need to replace the intake seals , easy job to do and the seals only cost a couple of quid while your in there changing the seals it would also be a ideal time to make sure your mixture settings are correct on the carb .
hope this is helpfull to you, any other questions just ask
kind regards
