Yamaha Diversion 900 backfiring

My Diversion 900 suddenly started backfiring this morning, has been fine until today. Also it seems like it is not getting the fule through but as it has bene running for a bit it seems to get bursts and lurches forward.

thanks, seems also I posted in my haste in the wrong area. Been very cold and damp here since before Christmas in UK. Not used the bike since early December, although do start it and let it run, all been fine till this morning. Also if I put the choke on instead of reving up the engine dies, as if flooded.

I'm thinking a misfire through a plug wire. Has the humidity increased recently There's been lots of rain moving across the country. When the rpm gets higher, the spark is what's coming back to normal, not the fuel. Clean spark delivery is at fault much more often newer bikes than fuel delivery in my experience. Though both can cause same symptoms.

I agree with Goose on this subject, a good strip/clean and re-sync should do wonders for Your Diversion, As your bike set, the gas may have broke down a bit and clogged some of the jet ports on the carbs.

I Had the same problem on a 600 diversion. I changed the fuel to premium unleaded and took it up the motorway to clean the engine and now it works fine

Motorbikes backfires, and is irratic with accelration.

Nice bike and an annoying issue. Backfire is unburnt fuel that then detonates.

Hopefully, it's just a plug going bad. Pull the plugs and see which one is black/wet. That will be the tell tale sign which cylinder is acting up.

I'd replace all, set the proper gap and install them and take it for a test drive.

Good luck hope this is a simple fix.

Backfiring and seems to be struggling getting fuel

check to make sure your plugs arent fouled. the last bike i had did that to me, fine in the morning and when i went to leave for work in the afternoon the bike ran like **** for a few seconds and shut off. i took the bike back to where i bought it and they replaced the plugs. ran fine after that.
