Did you try to adjust the idle screw? its one screw in the middle of the four carbs, if that dosen't work your carbs probly need a rebuild

'87 Yamaha ProV 50: Will cold start and idle well. After a full throttle 1-2 min run will begin & continue running very rough near idle. Will die without addtl throttle imput.

Hi Roderick:
I'm not familiar with your engine configuration, but on some of the older bikes, vibration eventually can cause a wire to break in the coil. When the engine is cold, the wires make contact and it runs, but as soon as it gets hot, the connection is broken or compromised and the spark quits or drives you crazy.
Since your bike runs when cold and quits when hot, I'd be looking for electrical rather than fuel problems.
Hope this helps.

Starts and idles fine and runs with feathering the throttle, but dies when I try to run it full.

Hi Joe:
Try removing and cleaning the muffler. Sometimes there is a fine screen (spark control) that will get covered with carbon. As soon as you try to run at high speed the back pressure kills the motor.

check for blockage in main jet as there is no fuel getting to the emulsion tube to mix with the air.

I have a 2003 ttr225 I can get the bike to start with the choke on ihave to let it warm up for an extremly long time before I can push in the choke . once the bike is warm and I hit the throttle hard ,...

Sounds like the idle circuit in the carb is restricted. The engine is running on the choke only. When the engine reaches a certain temp the fuelthat does get is more readily burned allowing you to back off the choke. The choke probsbly can't be completely opened? right? Fuel quality is also something to consider Oil content in fuel affects combustion temps and volatility. _good luck_Ned_

Starts but will only keep running while choke is on

Most likely your slow (idle, pilot, whichever name you prefer) jets are plugged up in your carburetors. If the bike was stored improperly, or old/dirty gas was in the tank, these jets get plugged up pretty easily. One if not all are probably affected. The slow jet is where your bike pulls gas while it has a closed throttle position. Its the smallest jet in the carbs. When you twist the throttle, the needle (blocking the main jet from being used) opens up and allows gas to pass it and up into the vacuum of your carb and into your engine. If the idle jets are plugged you will usually notice that if you give the bike throttle it will run great in the higher RPM (3000+) but will die and be "glitchy" or boggy when going from no throttle to open throttle. You can try to cheat a carb clean by getting some carb cleaner and spraying that down the carbs, and using seafoam or equivalent to get those jets clean, but its always a better bet to see whats going on inside and clean those things so you get your throttle response back. Goodluck.

Engine back fires

It may still have some water in the tank/system or the spark plug is no good. With a full tank of fuel, add 200ml of methilated spirits. It breaks up any moisture and lets it burn away. Also, with the motor out of gear, run the bike at higher revs and close the choke fully on and give full throttle at the same time. When the motor starts to die, flick the choke off. This can sometimes unclog a carby jet that may be slightly blocked because with the air choked,it gives a sudden **** off fuel. This may/maynot fix the bike but it the 1st thing to try before paying a dealer and it can't hurt anything.Hope this helps you

I Have a 1999 blazer that starts but motor dies right away.

Check the fuel delivery, first. It could be fuel pump or an obstruction. The best way is to start the car in park, then run over to the engine compartment and rev up the throttle. Keep idle higher than normal. If it wants to die, rev throttle higher to compensate. If it makes no difference, verify fuel pressure when engine dies. Usually ignition related wont even allow the car to start. Any service engine indication?
