Question about 2002 Yamaha TT-R 125 L

1 Answer

Can you straighten torqued front forks on a 2002 Yamaha TTR 125 L

Our 2002 Yamaha TTR 125L did a wheelie over a car and landed on the front wheel then fell on it's left side on the sidewalk. It still starts up with no problem, however, the front wheel and forks no longer line up with the handle bars so we think the front forks must be torqued. The wheel seems to line up with the forks but the handle bars are no longer lined up with the fork and wheel. My questions are as follows:
1. How can I be sure that the forks are torqued?
2. Is there a way to make adjustments to the forks or the handle bars to get them lined up again?
3. If I need to get new forks, which model years forks will work for the 2002 model or are the forks specific to this model year?

Thanks so much for your help!

Tami

You should be able to saporrt bike so front wheel is off the ground   then take a marker and put lines around where the forks meet the triple trees that hold them in place their should be some allen head bolts that u can loosen on front of the triple clamps  once these are loose you should be able  to move the forks back to strait again in line with the handle bars just line the lines up that u put on them earlier and tighten the allen bolts back up    also  when making the lines  make them from left  to right so marker is touching both fork tube and triple clamp   this is only so you get can keep them the same ride hight as before

I crashed and need to straighten the steering. The front wheel is turning to the left. How do I re-align the handlebars and front wheel?

First, support the bike so that the front wheel is off the ground. Then, loosen (do not remove, just loosen them) the bolts that clamp the fork tubes into the upper and lower triple clamp braces. Loosen the front axle attachments to the fork legs. Now stand in front of the bike and hold the front wheel between your knees and turn the handlebars until they are straight - and re-tighten everything. Also, check the large nut on top of the steering stem, making sure it is tight.

Droped bike handelbars r straight and front wheel is slightly turned 2 da left

You need to loosen and re-torque the fork triple clamp bolts, along with the front wheel axle, and pinch bolts. Do this with the front wheel off of the ground. Your forks may have twisted, and all needs to be loosened, straightened, and re-torqued.
Note...you can destroy forks if you don't properly torque tripple clamp bolts!!!!

2002 R1 engine slips on high RPM

From the sounds of your riding style (wheelies, etc.) you have burnt out the clutch.
No matter how much fun you think it is, Yamaha never designed them to be a toy to do wheelies. It is a sportsbike designed to go round corners fast.
The only silver lining is, hopefully the cost of replacing the clutch will stop you riding like a fool in future.

Twisted forks

and when the forks/bars/tripleclamps are straight the wheel goes towards the right. ii think they are twisted or bent. how much do new forks cost?Loosen your front wheel slightly. Loosen your fork clamp bolts on the triple clamps slighty. Hold the front brake lever. Put one leg on either side of the front wheel to keep it from moving. Use the handlebars to turn the front end back straight. Tighten everything back up using a torque wrench and torqueing to the proper values from your service manual. Go ride and have fun. ,
