Hi.I am from Greece and I ride a Hartford HD 125 L Legion, about 8 years old. I got this bike from a friend about 4 months ago. It seems to have a lot of problems so I need some advice on various subjects. 1.When I took the bike, there seemed to be a problem with the electric system.Every time I turned it on using the lights while driving, after that the battery was dead.I replaced it with a new one, the problem remained.I took it to an engineer in order to have it fixed. He replaced something like an electric transmissioner [if i say it right].He said it was burnt. The new battery was tested and found to be working fine. Despite all this, the condition remained the same.Everytime I use the bike with ther light on, it has not enought energy to start the next time like the battery is dead.I use the crank to turn it on. So what to you think I should do about it?There seems to be an electric leak.I can't explain it somehow else. Also motorbike electricians are rare here.
2. I lost my keys some days ago, but I didn't have spare. So I have to change the starter. It's a simple starter but I went to a store to find a similar one - since here in Greece there aren't any Hartford distributors, band the guys told me that he didn't have any starters that could fit.
How can I order a new starter and other Hartford spare parts? There are a lot of things that need to be changed. I need an exhaust, a new starter and new speedometers for now. No one here in Greece imports original Hartford spare parts.
I searched on e-bay but there don't seem to be any posts related to hartford. :( I decided to send the company a letter asking them if I can personally import the spare parts I need for the bike. I hope it will work this way. If it does I will just take them to an engineer to place them properly. As for the electrical problem, I have considered to have it fully rewired. I just have to find the right person to do it! I am just an architect!!!
Thank you very much for helping!
If someone else knows anything about importing spare parts, please be my guest! There is always a possibility that the company won't answer to my letter...

You could try ebay or import from a country that has supplies as to the electrical problem it is the regulator rectifier ive had hundreds of project bikes through my garage and nearly all of them have been fully rewired by me and had reg rectifier replaced

well reserve tank really just takes the tap for the fuel further down in the tank
ie if you place the fuel tap to reserve then you can access the full tank if its on normal you can only access so much down in the tank
anyway its down for reserve and up for main
look here in this you tube vid
Remove plug cap from spark plug and unscrew from HT lead. Clean it and put it to one side. Use a set of wire cutters to remove about 1/2 an inch of the HT lead and refit cap. This SHOULD sort it out.
If it was more serious, like the CDI for instance, then it wouldn't spark at all, so thankfully it isn't serious. Hope this helps.
you may find its a chinas copy of a honda 125cc so wip off the sprokets and just walk into the bike shop with them and just say "match them up mate!" dont go telling him what there off of as they just shake there heads and say iv got nothing like that? most of them are sale's shop morons? but as they say,,, monkey see's monkey go's and get's!!!! a banana as a treet helps there as well! also my bike is a copy as well and iv just changed me sprokest i droped the rear sproket teeth down by 5 teeth,,,yes thats right i did say by 5 teeth, smaller!!! it like moving first gear up into second gears place and adding a sixth gear, and i get another 10mph on top end, now i can get right across the road with out changing gear first! but it wont carry a passenger to well
Ā· Itās best to drain the oil when the bike is properly warmed up this thins the oil and makes it drain out faster. Remember to park the bike on it's centre stand on level ground,
If your bike was exposed to very hot or very cold weather for awhile that would be sufficient to weaken your battery. Heat and cold can drain a battery of power so it's important to check the battery hydro levels frequently and run a trickle charge during off-season.,,,
