I'd guess I would say, next check for 12 volts at pin 7 withe left turn button depressed and you say it worked, right? No? Check flasher unit for left side.Is your speedo doing strange things to?Check alarm system.Don't know why but anti-theft feature messes with left turn signal and speedo function.Disconnect neg. wire at battery, then reconnect and reset the alarm in usual way for when it goes off.[will go off when neg is reconnected].

Hi Dbull53, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

How do i check if my regulator rectifer is working on my 1989 xlh 1200 sportster i have put voltmeater on battery dc and reved bike voltage at 12.34v dose not move but turn bike off volts go to 12.8v ,i...

You need to check the output of your alternator. Unplug the regulator from the wires that come from your alternator. Put your meter function switch in AC VOLTS, 50 VOLT range. Start the engine and bring it to a high idle. Insert the meter leads into the alternator side of the plug. It doesn't make any difference which lead goes to which contact because you're measuring AC voltage. You should be reading 25 volts or higher from your alternator.

If your alternator is putting out 25 volts or better, and your battery is fully charged but only reading 12.3 volts, then your regulator is probably bad. It should be reading 14.5 to 15.0 volts when checked with a fully charged battery.

Make sure the regulator is grounded well to the frame and all connections are tight and clean.

Good luck
Steve

Runnin lights dont work but blinkers do

The only running lights will be the front. Make sure there are 3 wires going to the front turn signals. If not then you have a set of rears on the front. The wire color for the running light side is blue. That can be ( or should be ) attached to an Orange/ white wire ( that is a typical key on hot for Harley ) I would also double check the ground on them as well, since the turn signal can actually pick up a ground by back feeding through itself, but would still not let the running light to work
