Backfire thru carb 1340 99 springer

Hi Anonymous, popping, coughing, spitting, or backfiring through the carburator is usually caused by air getting sucked in combustion chamber do bad intake seals leaking. Leaking exhaust gaskets can also be suspect. Remove air cleaner and backing plate, while engine is idling spray WD-40 or Brake Kleen around intake manifold to head area, if RPM's increase you have an intake leak and seals need to be replaced, also spark plugs will be burning whiter than normal. Good luck

Pinch off or turn off fuel line to carb. Remove carb from engine. Remove carb bottom bowl. Observe screw that holds bowl to carb if it has a whole thru it clean it out with a bread wrapper twist after you peal back about an inch of wire. Remove float and needle, use same wire to clean out port. Use same wire to clean out center fuel pick up port in center of carb. Ensure upon reassembly the float is free to move. Float up no fuel flow, float down fuel flow.

17.5hp OHV Briggs & Stratton w/ Nikki Carb sputters & backfires thru carb & muffler

Hi, run a number drill through the main jet. Even though you have carby cleaned it a thin layer of residue will remain on the walls of the jet. The problem you have is a lean misfire. Regards Phil.

Backfiring is a timing problem. It happens when one of the cylinders fires while one of the valves is still open. Your timing should advance as the rpm's increase. Carburated vehicle have what's called vaccum advance and if that vaccum advance line is disconnected it will cause what you describe. There should be a vaccum line that connects from the carb to the distributor that controls your vaccum advance. The sputtering at idle is also probably a symptom of a disconnected vaccum line.

This is not the news you probably want to hear but backfiring thru the carbs when you have good spark can be one of 2 things... either the valves are sticking / not closing properly due to carbon or the cam timing has shifted from the original position.

It would be best to do a compression test. You should have a minimum of 100 PSIG for an engine with major problems and up to 150 for a healthy engine. If you can not get 100 PSIG then it will be time for some serious engine service.

There is a possibility of the kill switch wire in the handle bar grip grounding under the grip to the handlebar but, since you said you have killer spark I doubt this is your problem.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My suzuki intruder is missing backfiring on the

Did you sync the two carbs? If not the rear may be getting all the gas from the rear carb and none to the front. Twist throttle engine off and see if front carb cable is pulling the carb open.
Also unscrew the spark plug boot from the front spark plug wire and trim 1/8th inch off the wire and screw the boot back in. The plug wire end may be corroded on that wire.

Won't start. Has compression. backfiring through

On many riding mowers there are two wires that at the bottom of the carb bowl, these wires go to a solenoid which closes a valve so gas will shut-off when the start key is turned off. When this solenoid is bad it will not close which let gas keep going to the carb so the eng will bang through the carb or muffer. Hope that this will Help. Hugh Lyon
