Just bought a 2001 Harley XL 883 sportster and when I drove it home the air filter was full of oil. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Check all your vacuum lines for kinks and/or blockage. Most of the bikes I've had this problem with are due to a blocked vacuum line.

I have a 2005 Sportster 883, Always used shop to change oil & xmission fluid. Any problem using a standard 20w50 oil and 80w90 xmission fluid and do the work myself?

Hi Ron, I have no trouble with you doing your own oil changes but why would you want to use someone elses oil that was not designed for your Sportster to save a few pennies? If you needed a blood transfusion would you want it from a family member or some stranger? For more information about your question please visit the websites below. Good luck and have nice day.

Oil in air cleaner on a harley davidson 2006 883 sportster

Hi Georgianna, oil leaking from your air cleaner is caused by oil carryover from the engine. For what ever reason the breather system is not seperating enough oil mist and air from the piston downstroke. There are cheap and quick easy fixes and there are more exspensive ones. Start by trying the following:
1. Run your oil level half way between the add and full mark when hot.
2. Run oil breather lines from head into a TEE fitting below carb/induction module then a single line into a mini filter under frame.
3. Purchase Arlen Ness Super Sucker.
4. Replace umbrella valves and realign oil pump
5. Upgrade oil pump and cam plate
Good luck and have nice day.

Why is there oil in my air filter? where is it coming from? 2006 883 L with 2000 miles.

This is normal on the sporty. I rode a 1200c for many years and from time to time some blowback would accumulate in the filter and drip from the bottom of the filter cover. Just clean it off and enjoy the ride.

Check the plugs, replace the air filter, oil and oil filter. Check the steering head bearings for excessive play, check the swingarm for play, check the wheels for play, check the brake pads.
