Sounds like a faulty fuel pump relay.
The fuel pumps for these bikes are really good, but a fuel pressure test would be a good idea. Laymans test is to remove the fuel supply pipe and block the end with your thumb. When the ignition is turned on, you should not be able to hold back the fuel.

I have got an 85 xr600, i cant get it to idle for long when the choke is off. It gives a sneeze and then cuts out, but starts fine just wont idle properly. Any suggestions to what the issue might be?

failing to idle indicates a blockage in the idle circuit
this could be from a blocked idle jet or emulsion tube some cars have an idle circuit solenoid that cuts of the circuit when the switch is off there by stopping engine run on on shut down
the idle screw should stop the engine if all that way in and run it rough if too far out
it should be about 2 turns out from full in position
test the circuit by removing the screw and placing the finger over the hole
if it still cuts out the the problem is in the idle circuit.
another point is a vacuum leak from a badly fitted inlet gasket, carby gasket or ant vacuum line not connected.

Need to know what your air cleaner is like, what your running fuel pressure is and what your battery voltage is like and then you are a long ways towards a solution.

02 Vstar 1100 just cuts off while idling with either in neutral or coasting with the clutch in.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle speed improperly adjusted.
2. Inlet system air leak.
3. Leaking accelerator pump.
4. Loose low-speed jet.
5. Plugged low-speed jet.
6. Contaminated or plugged low-speed circuit.
7. Enrichner valve/choke not seated or leaking.

Cutting out at idle

the batery is ok if the engine start avery time. Also the volts are ok.
Have you made any modifications on it? Sport exhaust, sport air filter?
Check also the air filter. Make sure is clean...
Idle speed should be around 1000-1200 rpm. You should have a screw to fix the idle speed. Check it on the carburetors area, or download the manual from internet.
