Question about 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 600

1 Answer

Rusty Injectors I bought a 2007 Gsxr-600 from a women who kept bad gas in the bike. First of all the tank was extremley rusted, and it got down in the injectors. The bike runs great up to about 12 to 14k rpms. I bought a lot of different fuel injector cleaners and cleaned the tank. Now it runs a lot better but still as I get into higher rpms or pin the throttle back it boggs down! What should I do?

You going to have to pull the injectors out and clean them. You also better see a bout buying a type of tank coating that you pour into the tank to stop the rusting, or you are going on have this problem with it stopping up your injectors.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
    1. Fuel tank empty.
    2. The fuel tank has old dead gas.
    3. Fuel tank bottom contaminated with ethanol sludge, dirt, water, rust, etc.
    4. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
    5. Fouled spark plugs.
    6. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enrichner.
    7. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
    8. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
    9. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched, kinked or blocked.
    10. Carburetor float stuck.
    11. Fuel injectors clogged.
    12. Fuel injectors stuck open.
    13. Severely discharged or a damaged battery should have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a cursory reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
    14. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
    15. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil or plug between ignition sensor and ECM module.
    16. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for spark leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
    17. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or MAP, CMP, CKP, O2, TPS, ETP, IAC sensors.
    18. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
    19. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
    20. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
    21. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
    22. Security system not disarming alarm needs a reset.
    23. Check for engine trouble codes.

I have a 1998 suzuki GSXR that has been sitting 4 6 years with gas in it that are the things i should do to get it road worthy

I hope it was sitting inside and not outside. Bear in mind this bike may get costly. The following are general thoughts
    • Remove the bike battery and run jumper cables to the battery leads. Will the bike turn over using a car's battery?
    • Do the clutch and throttle cables work okay?
    • With car battery hooked up, does it have spark?
    • Shoot WD40 into each cylinder to lube the rings
    • Change gearbox oil. Lube the chain. Be sure the brakes are functioning properly.
    • Chances are the carbs are gummed up and will need some serious cleaning. Add an in-line fuel filter.
How bad is the rust inside the gas tank? You may need to seal the tank with KREEM to kill the rust problem.
    • New chain. New front and rear sprockets (if needed)
    • Battery
    • Carb rebuild kits (if needed)
    • Upholstery
    • Tires
    • Throttle, clutch and front brake cables
    • Speedometer cable
    • Electric starter (if needed)
    Please rate my answer. Thanks.

My 2008 suzuki gsxr 600 stalls when it reaches 70mph and above ,when the bike slows down the engine gives a **** and comes back in operation.

Make sure your air filter is clean, check the fuel filter and tank for contaminants.
More off the wall , the rev limiter may be faulty, is it a certain speed or a given rev range that causes the shutdown?
Look at the air filter first!!
    Good Luck, Marshall

does your bike have a kickstand switch...maybe hitting the speed bump caused the stand to move and killed the engine...also i think your bike has a tilt switch under the seat near the gas tank not real sure on the location but it just sounds to me like what would happen if you hit the kill switch...just throwing out some ideas let me know it it helped.

How do you drain the gas tank on a Suzuki GSXR 600? Also, my bike has been sitting for a while, what do I need to change or look at before I start it up? Do I need to take it to a certified mechanic? If...

Clip off the seat. you can now access two bolts for the tank. remove those and lift up the tank to see where the hose is connected to underneath. There is a gasket around the end of the hose where you pinch to make loose and pinch that to move it up off the connection. Now pull off the hose and gas will drain out, put the old gas in a can and dispose economically proper (auto parts store or burn it in a fire) change the oil, and transmission fluid. When winter rolls around you are supposed to winterize the bike so your gas doesn't rust the inside of the tank. Change the fluids every spring before starting it up you should be good to ride. don't forget to check air pressure in tires, and brake fluid every 20k miles.

'03 gsxr 600, rusty fuel tank n rough revving

carbs need a good cleaning. had this same problem with an 82 GS1100. cleaned the tank as best i could, you can never get all the rust tho. finally had an idea to place a couple of old car speaker magnets on the outside bottom of the tank to catch any residual rust. been 4 years now with no more problem.
