Question about 2005 Suzuki Boulevard S40

Squealing on acceleration

Had bike in storage for a year, just got it out of the shop and now it makes a high pitched noise only during acceleration. It's a mix between a squeal and a ping (intermittent). ???? Does the shop cover this?

Very easily could be rust and /or corrosion on brakes that is slightly rubbing when no brake applied. Would stop when pressure is applied when brake engaged. Should wear off very quickly as the brakes heat upon engagement. May be I said.

Horrible noise started coming from gearbox and noise continues if i pull clutch in and kill motor and free wheel! is this likley to be main gear shaft bearings and if so can it cause more damage

Hi Daddydogg, if it is a high pitch squealing noise it may very well be a bearing failure the best thing to do is not to run it anymore and take it to your local dealer or reputable shop and let them have a listen. You can drain the primary and check the magnetic drain plug for metal ants. 1984 Yamaha Venture Squealing somewhere towards the front end of the bike.

Unhook the speedo cable at the wheel and zip tie it up somewhere safe so the cable doesn't fall out of the sheath, and test ride. If the squeal doesn't go away it's the speedometer gear or something else at the wheel. If it does go away the bearings in the speedo itself are drying out. You'd then have to pull the cluster, fit a pipe cap with a grease zerk threaded to it onto the back of the speedo, and grease with appropriate bearing grease which I believe is moly grease.

At all speeds when you turn the throttle even just a little, you hear a high pitched whistle. Could anyone tell me if this is normal or not??

The noise may be the classic Yamaha whine. I have had a Virago & Vstar1100, They all had various noises that came from within. You may notice the distinct whine/whistle at lower speeds and during acceleration. Seems to go away if you pull in the clutch or let off the throttle, not so noticable on the freeway. This appears to be a common phenomenon and I have seen it attributed to Clutch, transmission, and/or shaft on a lot of Yamaha bikes.
I hope this helps.

My gas tank is building up excess pressure when the bike is on for a while or after riding only short distances. This causes a high pitched squeal when the pressure gets too high. If pressure is not...

G'day.
The tank is building up too much pressure because the pressure relief valve in the gas cap is blocked. All gas caps are vented-(otherwise the tank has to be somewhere- like on Canadian models with fuel evaporative systems on them).
clear the blockage or replace the cap & you should be fine.
Under most roadbike gas caps is a cover held in place with two screws-remove them to dissasemble the cap & clear the blockage in the cap vent
If yours is a Canadian(maybe US models are the same)-model then the problem is in the fuel evaporative system. Check out this link.

Clacking noise at different engine idles on my Yamaha V Star

Lots of bikes make a clacking in the transmission , especially when cold at idle. Basically the engine accelerates and decelerates between each piston firing, and you hear the backlash in the gears slapping back and forth. Without hearing it I can't say for sure, but find someone else with a similar bike and see if it sounds the same.

Sounds like timing chain, higher pitch gear noise.

common on high mileage bikes, chain tend to stretch over years and get very sloppy. you might also want to check the gear making sure is not worn, worn gear will chew your new chain up quickly. check your timing belt also, it good idea to also replace.

Squealing noise possible speedometer issue

There sounds like there is a problem with your spedometer rotor sensor and you will need to check this out but it will be easier to see from the manual(page 47) and you can download it free here:

High pitched squeal

It most likely is a worn brake pad. Clutch will tend to slip with out any squeal since it is a wet clutch. Try applying the front brake then the rear brake to determine which is squealing. Pads are about $45.00 per wheel, I just did mine friday.

Strange noise in cold HD EVO engine

I had a similar situation with a Harley once that turned out to be a broken front motor mount.

I do not work on many Harleys, but I was told that it was a fairly common problem with that model.

Maybe that will help, maybe it wont.
