SOURCE: clutch adjustment

There are to different adjustments you can make. The most common adjustment made is on the clutch cable under the rubber boot real easy to figure out once you slide the boot off. The second is at your ramp and ball. I don't ride a RK so I don't know the exact method, but if you stop by your local library they might have a manuel that explains it in detail. My library does.

I got a road king classic 2007 and it has never been started, it has sat in storage. What do you suggest I do first?

drain the gas and replace with new, do an oil change and check the levels of the primary case and gear box. check your battery hopefully it was disconnected and has been on a battery tender or you have a new one. check the operation of the clutch cable and brakes and lube them if necessary. check tires for cracking and pressure. Some of this may not be necessary if the bike was properly stored and maintained.

I thought that my clutch cable broke on my 03 Road King Classic. After pulling the lever, the clutch is still engaged. I took the dipstick out of the side case and saw that the cable moved while pulling...

The only small lock ring that I can think of is the one that holds the throw out bearing on the end of teh clutch release rod. it's a vrery tiny O-ring, about an 1/8" indiameter. Everything is alright unless you pull your clutcth and you pull the clutch release rod out. Then you have to pull the other side of the transmission case to put the new bearing back and trhrust plae,

Where do I fill my transmission with fluid on my 2008 roadking? I just changed out my clutch cable and I lost close to a quart.

If you lost close to a quart of transmission fluid, you lost most all of it. Look on the right side of the bike for the cover you removed to replace the clutch cable. There is a large plug that takes a 3/8" Allen or Hex key to remove. Remove the plug and there is a dipstick on it. You should have seen this when you were replacing the cable. The transmission holds 20-24 ounces of transmission lube. Check the level with the bike straight up and keep it between the two marks.

Good luck

How to check gear oil

On the right side of the bike, on the end of the transmission is the clutch release mechanism. It's behind the exhaust system and the clutch cable runs into it at the bottom. In this cover is a plug that takes a 3/8" Allen or Hex key to get it out. Check the fluid level with the bike standing straight up. The level needs to be between the two marks on the dipstick.

2008 Harley davidson cluch cable leak

There's nothing in a clutch cable to leak. It's simply a cable housing with a twisted cable inside of it. There is a seal to keep the transmission fluid out of the inside of the cable. But, if you're leaking trans fluid at the lower end, read on.

Now, down where the cable goes into the chrome clutch release mechanism on the right side of the bike, there is an O-ring on the cable to prevent trans oil from leaking out. Try tightening the cable right where it goes in. If this doesn't stop it, you'll have to remove the cable and replace the O-ring.

To replace the O-ring, you will have to remove the chrome clutch release mechanism. First drain the transmission oil by removing the drain plug. You'll probably have to remove at least part of the exhaust system to gain access to the release mechanism. Then remove the bolts that hold the clutch release mechanism on. Turn the release mechanism over to where you can disconnect the clutch cable for the release ramp. Turn the clutch release mechanism off of the cable. Replace the O-ring, put on a new end gasket, and reassemble in reverse order. Torque the bolts that holds the chrome clutch release mechanism on to 100 inch pounds. Refill the tranny with oil.

Good Luck,
Steve

Leaking clutch cable

I assume you mean it leaks where the cable goes into the transmission cover on the right hand side?

The cable at that end has an o-ring to seal it, and yours might be bad, and needs replacing.

I have an oil leak on my 2003 road king from a tube that comes up from the transmission & loops downward what is this from?

That is the transmission vent tube. Stand your bike as straight up as you can get it. On the right hand side you'll see a chrome cover where the clutch cable runs into it. There is a plug in this cover that uses a large hex key (7/16") to remove it. There is a dip stick on the plug. Check the level of the fluid in the transmission. If it's too full, this will cause oil to come out of the vent tube.
