Hard to start

Got a '78 kawasaki 650 z and it won't start. It started to have problems a while back and kept getting harder and harder to start. Now it's been sitting up and won't crank. Any help?

    Hi Brent,

    Is the starter working?

Have you tried to push start it?

    Is the engine rotating?

These bike are known to 'pull the valves into the head'.
You need to do a compression test to check for leaky valves.
If the valves are sealing well, check the valve clearance.

I have a 1986 zx 600 ninja and its hard to start when its cold I have to use starting fluid but after running even for a min it starts great

Your problem is that your valves are not properly adjusted; had the same problem on my 1985 Ninja 600 - the colder the ambient temperature got the harder it was to start. After a valve adjustment it fired right up even in freezing temperatures very reliably.

Kawasaki Brute Force 650 4x4i atv 2007 cold start problem seems to flood when trying to start. Once it starts runs like a champ and restarts no problem

Install new spark plugs and go easy on the throttle when starting. A power valve squirts extra gas every time the throttle is twisted. Twist too often when starting and the engine floods. Please rate my answer. Thanks!
