After it starts it works fine for five minutes and then it just cuts off then when you try to start it back up it is no use. When this happened to me

Sounds like the fuel pump is going/gone bad. When they get warm after running, they get weaker. So the next time you crank it, it's too warm and weak to go.

But when you let it sit, it cools off.

To test, see if you can hear it run and prime the system when you turn the key to the "ON" position.

Even better, you can get a fuel pressure gauge and connect it to the fuel rail to confirm whether or not you're even getting fuel there.

You can actually bypass the whole system now. People have been doing that "Key Bypass" forever, but there is more now yo u can do to eliminate the whole faulty system. This link explains the issue pretty well. Plus the company in the picture for bypass.

1997 Trans am Cuts off then restarts shut down later

I have experienced a car with a heat sensitive crankshaft sensor so I would opt for that as my first choice. I doubt the fuel pressure regulator would cause your problem but it could be the fuel pump or water or dirt in the fuel tank.

Pontiac firebird ecm failure.tried 2 units both failed.when first plugged in car displayes code 12[all fine] car starts,ok, i believe when car is put ino gear[auto]box fails chip number16024824.cannot jump...

Sorry to say this, but it time to go threw the wiring harness. You have a shorted wire somewhere. Mostly likely a few wires. To short out ECM's you probably have a 12 volt wire shorted to a computer wire. Putting 12 volts to most of the wires to the ecm will kill it in no time. Good luck.

Hi, sounds like it's loading up. Recommend you check the fuel pressure regulator for a torn diaphram. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r7427423-fix_poor_idle_high_idle_stalling_fuel . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info

It's not likely to be your catylitic converter it's more likely your fuel pump is going bad or you have some damaged wiring to the fuel pump. If by chance you recently had it changed the ground probably didn't get connected right.
