Question about 1981 Suzuki TS 185

1977 Suzuki TC185 splutters, and won't speed up under ful throttl

The bike is a TC 185 not a TS185 just was not in the listing

I recenly brought a 1977 Suzuki TC 185 2 stroke trail bike (low and high range gearbox) I have found a problem in my bike.

It seems to putt around fine when you have only just twisted the throttle a little bit, and you can get up it to do a wheelie, but once you open it up on a straight dirt road or any road it will splutter and you would be lucky to get 20 kl/m out of it, could this be because of the carby not right, could i adjust the needle and see what it does? Its like its got a govner (restrictor) on it.

Please help me im stuck for ideas, the coils fine its got spark its got a good spark plug in it, its got good petrol in it, what else could be the problem?

Thanks Matt.

Hi mate, the problem was solved, the air tube to go from the carby to the air box was to small an was restricting it.

how long did this bike sit before it was started by you? could be a case of bad gas in the carb that turned to varnish/gum and plugged up the main jet.

1. The carb could need cleaning.
2. Sounds like the exhaust pipe needs to be de-carbed.

Should a 1976 ts185 have spark and run even if you have the battery out?

Yes it should have spark, as long as the ignition switch is turned on. You will have to check the coil & magneto circuit if there is no spark.

Best wishes,

Suzuki TS 185 - can't get the bike to start with

if it starts with a bump and not the kick start, it usually means the crankshaft seals are leeking. left one leeking will make it run weak, right one it will run rich.

1977 Suzuki TS185 throttle sticks

Could be 2 things to look at first.1 the idle adjusting screw has been screwed in to far and is holding the throttle slide open. The other is an air leak between the carby and the motor resulting in the air/fuel mixture being to lean. This would cause the revs of the engine to be to high.Check these 2 things.Hope this helps
