Hi Johnallen698
High idle often relates to it leaning out from sucking air into the inlet manifold. You can find the leak by spraying a CRC about the intake, the CRC will be sucked into the crack/opening and you will notice a change in revs when you find the spot it is leaking. Check for cracks Make sure the manifold is bolted up correctly, check gaskets for failure. Happy to talk to you more about the problem. Good luck with sorting it. A FixYa vote is a great reward for my effort to help you. Cheers.

Hi John, you can download a manual from here. I would be checking things like maybe the throttle cable getting held up when it is hot, Make sure it is well lubed. Few questions

    1. is it returning fully home at the idle adjustment screw when hot.

    2.  How high does it get(revs).

    3. What happens when you blip the throttle, does it return immediately to the high idle point, or slowly come back down again.

    4.  If you adjust the idle speed when when revving high(hot) does it come back down to tick over again and stay there?
You can download a manual for the moto here.

I am still downloading a copy for myself. Will post any more suggestions I have when I get to looking at it :)

Everything points to a change in mixture for it to idle high.

Just had a readup of the manual, and the bike has a throttle valve sensor that may be playing up. Check the manual for details. There is instruction on how to check it with a multi meter. Has a good guide  for stripping, overhauling and setting up the carby. Think you gonna have to do this to get to the bottom of the problem.  Check the engine manual for details.

Hey John, uploading the bit of the manual you need now. 12 meg file so I hope you get it.

The whole manual I linked you to is a winrar file, try right clicking on it and "extracting" it. Download a trail version to boot up on your PC from here. Just click cancel when it asks you to upgrade :)

Hi I have a 2000 model KTM 520 not getting fuel to the Carby once I clean the carburettor does anyone have any ideas or know where I can download a good diagram would be a great help thank you

Hi, Tim always check fuel flow first to isolate the problem area otherwise the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel cap or fuel tank not venting properly.
3. Fuel filter clogged with rust or dirt.
4. Fuel valve/petcock not in the on or reserve position.
5. Vacuum line to fuel valve cracked, broken, pinched, or missing*
6. Fuel valve/petcock clogged or diaphragm cracked, cut or torn*
7. Fuel line from the fuel valve to the carburetor or fuel pump clogged, cracked, pinched, bent, broken, or missing.
8. Fuel pump not working*
9. Fuel line touching cylinder or head causing fuel to boil and vapor lock, repair by rerouting and wrapping line with convoluted tubing.
10. Carburetor inlet clogged.
11. Carburetor float or needle and seat stuck.
12. Carburetor not venting properly overflow line or bowl fitting clogged, pinched, or bent.
* If equipped or applicable.

Ktm 520 exc. Bike idles fine. But from about 1/4 -3/4 throdle it is really lurchy and jumpy but when opened up fully it runs fine. Ive tried cleaning out the carby but still doing it

Hi, When you cleaned out the carbs. Did you clean out the idle jets.
Try that and see if there is a change. My guess they are partly clogged with debree. Hope that helps.

Take it back to the dealer. It should be under warranty. Also have them check all of the recalls if any.

I have just got a ktm 200 ,only road it twice , first time it was minted , playing about all day , left it one week ,sat morning got all the gear on , took me about a half hour to start it , about 100...

The cable is very easy to replace it by yourself. Just remove the carburator and unscrew its top and remove carefuly the slight valve. That years bike was 2 stroke. You can also easily tell by its exhaust header which is big and not just a simple pipe.

Hi there over the ditch. EBAY rocks for most bits you lookin for. Motard wheels check out your KTM dealers oz wide as they were giving away Motard wheels with new 530 last year an some might still have stock. I am just in process of fitting Motard Kit I got from local dealer you will need to get a Digital speedo from a later model EXC as the 2000 520 has an analog an won't fit with Motard Wheels.

Cut out

did everything as usual letting the bike idle for 5 minutes while I got my gear on. Got to the end of the road stoped then as I opened the throtle to pull away it cuts out. Restart then as I get to the next junction does it again. Pull over a bit to give it some revs, all seems fine, nice idle etc, then does it again at the next junction as I try to pull away. After that no problems at all, went out for an hour or so didn't miss a beat, was out on it the day before to with no problems. Anyone else had any of this sort of weirdness on their 690?,check out the fluid in the clutch reservoir. I was loosing some oil from the slave cyl. and when there was a lack of oil exactly same thing was happening to me.,,,
