I have a 2005 Suzuki LT80 for my boy that is doing the same thing. It'll run all day long with the choke on, and if you give it throttle with no choke it'll run up and down the street just fine. But as soon as I stop, it idles down then dies. Will start right up again. I've cleaned the air filter, tried adjusting the idle, and disassembled the choke and cleaned, but got nothing better. Even dumped some ring clean in the tank and ran it full throttle up and down the street a bunch of times. Any thoughts? Can I pop the choke off and spray carb cleaner in there?

I have a 2004 YZF250. It sat for about 2 years until I recently started it again. It runs great with the choke on but dies out when I turn the choke off. I am assuming something in the normal run circuit of the carb is plugged (old gas has gummed up maybe?).

If so, can I open the carb and clean it without totally screwing up it's settings?

Can I clean the carb without taking it out and disassembling it...?

    Any suggestions?

it sounds like you need to adjust how much fuel is going in. have you checked it all?

Hi mikelapt
You will have a carby problem. When the choke is one, and different fuel circuit is used. When you turn off the choke, you go back to the idle circuit of the carb is used, when under throttle, main jets kick in. You probably have a blockage in one of these circuits. Strip the carb down, clean with carby cleaner, blow out all air circuits and jets with compressed air, then setup the idle mixture and tick over speed. Always work with fresh fuel, and drain off, discard any fuel older than a couple of months. It goes off, and turns to a gel  like substance that blocks up your carby. Hope this has explained your problem. Happy to talk to you more about it. A FixYa vote is a great reward for for my time taken to explain this to you. Cheers

Your low speed jet is pluged. You will have to remove the carb then remove the screw in the float bowl. You will see a main jet and a pilot jet. You will have to remove the brass plug that covers the air ajust screw. Then turn it in to find out how many turn till it bottom out. Then remove the screw and take carb cleaner and blow out all passages. Then reinstall all jets. Hope this helps.

Would almost certainly be blocked pilot jet and pilot circuit a classic symptom of this is running only with choke on
buy new pilot jet an compress air clean the hole the pilot jet screws into

Kawasaki Ninja 250 running problem

This could be due to timing screw being incorrectly set
Locate gold timing screw on the carbrettta turn it clockwise only slightly till bike idles without choke on, Then when choke it on it should idle a touch higher.

Bike has been standing for 18 months without the engine being spun. Bike will not start without choke. when choke is off engine stalls

You need to completely drain and refill the gas - the gas you have is stale and doesn't have enough power to run the bike.
The battery needs to be fully charged - not just jump started. It wouldn't hurt to do an oil and filter change as well as a air filter and plug change.

Yz 250 4-stroke It's extremely hard to kick over, so it has a pressure release lever on the handle bar. Is there some "proper" way to kick it over, or do I just kick it while holding the "pressure rel

That lever is a compression release and pulling it will make kick stating an excersie routine. Kick start without the pulling the lever. See how that works. good luck.

Bike died during poker run

I would eliminate the possibility of bad gas first, considering you had just filled up. Move on to the other possibilities after eliminating the simple ones first. Battery, spark plugs, plug wires, other ignition problem, fuel delivery problem.
