Question about 2001 Honda VF 750 C Magna

1 Answer

Engine tapping The engine gets a tapping sound once it's warmed up. Slight acceleration or increase in idle and it's gone. Doesn't matter if it's in neutral or not. Theres no power loss that I can feel and I believe it's a very strong bike for it's size. Bike only has 6000 miles on it. It had this issue when I purchased it with only 1800 miles on it. Could this be a valve or chain tensioner issue? Or is it just the way these engines run?

Changed oil clogged air filter with new after market air filter bike ran good until the third time I started it it would not idle unless it was choked

My Harley is very slow to warm up, it also does not like to idle without choke unless it is good and warm. It could be the clogged filter was acting like a choke, but ruining your gas mileage. Now with air flowing smoothly the engine needs a bit of choke to idle. It should not need choke once it is fully warmed up unless your idle speed is set too low. With the engine hot, check RPM if you have a tach. If too low, adjust the idle speed at the carburetor. I suggest you find the adjustment while the engine is cold.

The pink coloured hose from carburettor of pulsar 150 connected to where what area? and actually the problem in my bike the hose open to amosphere now. while the starting of engine it starts but rpm g

Hi, Uthaman the pink tube is an overflow tube from the carburetor and vents to the atmosphere and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle speed improperly adjusted.
2. Inlet system air leak.
3. Leaking accelerator pump.
4. Loose low-speed jet.
5. Plugged low-speed jet.
6. Contaminated or plugged low-speed circuit.
7. Enrichner valve is not seated or leaking.

I bought my Shine 1 month before. From the time I bought, I am facing a problem with the bike. Every day I have to use the choke for 5 minutes for the bike to start and run. If I remove the choking just...

1. Sounds like maybe fuel line from gas tank is clogging. Clean gas tank. To check, remove some gas from tank and run it through a paint screen.
2. Replace gas filter regardless.
3. Could also just be water in gas tank. Drain some gas from lowest point of tank (usually the reserve), into glass jar. Water should settle to bottom.

Sooty exhaust, engine cuts out unless warmed up.

Sounds like the air filter has either gotten wet or is just dirty. If this is not the case then perhaps the spark plugs have become fouled from excessive idling of the engine.

Check the air filter first - and make sure there's nothing covering the air filter intake. I once found a rider's beanie stored over the air filter intake, causing this same symptom. (Where do you store your beanie and gloves?)

No matter the cause, if the spark plugs are black and sooty, replace them with new ones.

The engine loses power when 1st gear is engaged,

This sounds like a broken tooth on the main axle. This would account for the lump in every gear and a power loss due to the axle being bent also. I would change the axle, support bearings, and the gear the axle engages. Check the output shaft for bending also.

This could be bad bearings on the shafts but is is highly unlikely if the gearbox oil has been kept at proper levels. In any event, the gearbox will need to be opened up for inspection.

Engine cuts out with clutch engaged.

idle adjust?
there SHOULD be an adjuster under the seat or gastank within easy reach. Clockwise to increase rpm, ccl to decrease rpm. idle around 1400rpm when engine is at normal operating temp. Good luck!

The engine revs increase when the engine gets warm.

sounds like the carb lifting body is sticking. take it out and clean it, give it a light coating of wd40 and check the body for any sharp edges as this will cause it to stick. if it has rubber diaphrams then check these for holes even a oin ***** will cause many a problem and must be replaced.
